Ch. 21Specialization

Qiao Lun waited outside the ruins, suspecting Kortopi had used copied buildings to sense intruders, while the Phantom Troupe organized its search for their enemies. He tested his Nen and discovered that his aura caused shadows to ripple, confirming his hopes that he was a Specialist with a shadow-related ability.

  • Gon stubbornly clashed with Nobunaga, and Feitan's coin toss ended with Nobunaga saving him from Feitan.
  • Shalnark assigned the Phantom Troupe members to search in groups of at least three while Nobunaga stayed behind; Hisoka noticed that Bonolenov and Kortopi had not joined a group.
  • Qiao Lun spotted the unusually dense buildings around the ruins and concluded that Kortopi had made copies whose inherited En could expose anyone who approached.
  • Qiao Lun decided to wait for Gon and Killua to escape rather than risk alerting the Troupe, and he sent Hisoka a message.
  • Qiao Lun tested his Nen with water and found that his aura made the cup's shadow ripple, revealing his Specialist affinity and shadow-related ability.

Ch. 22Development × Reply

Qiao Lun planned how to develop his shadow-related Nen Ability and watched the Phantom Troupe members leave the abandoned buildings. After receiving Hisoka’s message offering a brief opening in half an hour, Qiao Lun prepared to approach the hideout with Rabbit Escape and Nue.

  • Qiao Lun considered focusing on Enhancement, Manipulation, and Transmutation to strengthen, control, and create shadows.
  • Qiao Lun spotted Phinks, Feitan, and Pakunoda leaving the abandoned buildings and used the Divine Dogs to monitor for others.
  • Qiao Lun received Hisoka’s message saying he could act in half an hour, when Hisoka could give him five minutes.
  • Qiao Lun summoned five hundred Rabbit Escape rabbits, then had Nue carry him toward the abandoned building.

Ch. 23Surprise attack × Nobunaga

Qiao Lun lured Nobunaga into revealing the Phantom Troupe’s hiding place, then launched a surprise attack with Nue and Great Serpent. The chapter ended with Qiao Lun charging at the injured Nobunaga with a quick-draw sword stance.

  • Qiao Lun taunted the Phantom Troupe from the sky, and Nobunaga resisted leaving the storage room to confront him.
  • Killua and Gon realized they could escape through the walls and broke out in separate directions.
  • Qiao Lun located the room by listening for the noise, then sent Nue diving through the wall to strike Nobunaga.
  • Nue blasted Nobunaga through several walls, and Qiao Lun summoned Great Serpent to attack him outside the building.
  • Qiao Lun crushed Nobunaga’s connected phone and charged toward him on Great Serpent, readying the same quick-draw stance.

Ch. 24Qiao Lun vs Nobunaga

Qiao Lun defeated Nobunaga by using Max Elephant’s water to disrupt Nobunaga’s En-enhanced, stationary defense and finish him with a sword-drawing slash. After Nobunaga’s head fell, black aura rose from his neck, and Qiao Lun recognized it as Cursed Energy.

  • Nobunaga activated En, increasing the speed and power of his attacks within four meters while remaining rooted in place, and wounded Qiao Lun and Great Serpent.
  • Qiao Lun pulled out of Nobunaga’s range and summoned Max Elephant, whose water forced Nobunaga to move and caused his En to disappear.
  • Qiao Lun used One-Sword Style: Iai to cut off Nobunaga’s head after the water disrupted Nobunaga’s counterattack.
  • Black aura emerged from Nobunaga’s severed neck, and Qiao Lun recognized it as Cursed Energy.

Ch. 25Rabbit Escape

Qiao Lun killed Nobunaga while Rabbit Escape delayed the returning Phantom Troupe members. As Franklin’s bullets tore through the rabbits, Qiao Lun watched Nobunaga’s headless corpse for a new change.

  • Qiao Lun fought Nobunaga while Gon and Killua escaped, then fled the scene after spotting a strange white rabbit.
  • Feitan returned first but was slowed by rabbits that reappeared from shadows after being struck; Phinks and Pakunoda were also held up.
  • Franklin used Double Machine Gun to blast through the rabbits, while the distant clash made the Phantom Troupe members more anxious.
  • Qiao Lun watched Nobunaga’s headless corpse as black Nen rose from it and a new change began.

Ch. 26Speculating about his ability

Qiao Lun escaped the Phantom Troupe after killing Nobunaga, using Round Deer to heal himself and erase Nobunaga’s Post-Mortem Nen while Nue carried him away with Nobunaga’s head. The surviving Troupe members suspended their activities and began speculating that Qiao Lun’s Nen beasts could inherit abilities from the corpses of his victims.

  • Round Deer neutralized the Post-Mortem Nen around Nobunaga’s corpse and healed Qiao Lun’s wound with Reverse Cursed Technique.
  • Franklin, Shizuku, and Shalnark attacked Qiao Lun, but Round Deer blocked Franklin’s bullets while Nue carried Qiao Lun into the sky.
  • Qiao Lun escaped with Nobunaga’s head stored in his shadow space, and Shalnark discovered it was missing.
  • The Phantom Troupe questioned whether a traitor had revealed their location, while Hisoka denied their suspicions and Shalnark reported Nobunaga’s death to Chrollo.
  • Shalnark and Feitan speculated that Qiao Lun was a Specialization-type Nen user whose Nen beasts could consume corpses and inherit their abilities.

Ch. 27Positive energy × Contact

Qiao Lun explained that Reverse Cursed Technique could purify negative post-mortem Nen, then gave Kurapika Nobunaga’s head and learned Gon and Killua had encountered the Troupe. After Kurapika arranged to meet them and handed Qiao Lun his new identification, Qiao Lun left to open a bank account before the fighting began that evening.

  • Qiao Lun told Kurapika that positive energy could neutralize negative post-mortem Nen but could not remove other Nen abilities, then gave him Nobunaga’s purified head.
  • Kurapika called Gon after Qiao Lun described the two children Nobunaga had been guarding, and Gon and Killua admitted the Phantom Troupe had captured them.
  • Kurapika agreed to meet Gon and Killua after Gon explained that Nobunaga had mourned his dead companion, while Killua hoped Kurapika could help them grow stronger.
  • Kurapika gave Qiao Lun an identification card listing him as a sixteen-year-old Yorknew City resident, and Qiao Lun left to open a bank account and transfer his six billion Jenny.

Ch. 28The main cast

Qiao Lun prepared for Chrollo’s likely attempt to kidnap Neon and met with Kurapika, Gon, Killua, and Leorio to discuss helping with the operation. Gon and Killua asked him to teach them Nen, but he declined and learned they hoped to earn money to buy Greed Island.

  • Qiao Lun watched Neon’s movements and planned to use Chrollo’s attempt to steal her fortune-telling ability to give Hisoka a chance to fight Chrollo alone.
  • Kurapika introduced Gon, Killua, and Leorio to Qiao Lun, and the group discussed how they could help with the operation against the Phantom Troupe.
  • Qiao Lun told Gon and Killua they were not strong enough to claim a share of the Phantom Troupe bounty, though they might lend a hand.
  • Gon and Killua asked Qiao Lun to teach them Nen, but he declined because his methods differed and the timing was unsuitable.
  • Killua explained that he and Gon wanted money to buy Greed Island, and Qiao Lun became interested in the game.

Ch. 29Guidance

Qiao Lun told Gon and Killua that Battera was recruiting qualified players for Greed Island, and explained they needed to develop their Nen abilities before they could pass his test. The group planned to watch for the Phantom Troupe that night, but Dalzollene called to report that Neon had disappeared.

  • Qiao Lun warned Gon and Killua that earning enough money to buy Greed Island was unrealistic and said Battera would recruit players at the Southernpiece Auction House on September tenth.
  • Qiao Lun explained that mastering Nen was only the minimum requirement for Battera's screening and that Gon and Killua had not yet developed [Hatsu].
  • Qiao Lun said he planned to enter Greed Island to improve his abilities and obtain useful items.
  • Kurapika assigned Gon, Killua, and Leorio to accompany Melody, watch for the Phantom Troupe, and withdraw if they encountered danger.
  • Dalzollene called Kurapika and told him that Miss Neon had disappeared.

Ch. 30Substitution × Assassin

Qiao Lun arranged for Hisoka to meet Chrollo at the Semetary Building, while Illumi impersonated Hisoka to keep the Phantom Troupe from noticing his departure. As the auction security assembled, Light Nostrade and Kurapika arrived without their second invited assassin.

  • Qiao Lun messaged Hisoka to wait at the Semetary Building, and Hisoka secretly left Illumi in his place at the Phantom Troupe’s hideout.
  • Illumi passed Chrollo’s Ten Dons assassination job to Maha, Kikyo, and Kalluto, then went to the abandoned building disguised as Hisoka.
  • Hisoka met Qiao Lun at the restaurant, but Chrollo had not yet arrived; mafia guards and the Shadow Beasts secured the building for the auction.
  • Silva and Zeno entered the assassins’ briefing room with Zenji, who objected when Light Nostrade arrived with only Kurapika.
  • Light told Zenji that his missing companion had other business and that they should begin without him.

Ch. 31Chrollo

Qiao Lun and Hisoka confronted Chrollo at a restaurant, where Chrollo abandoned Neon and tried to escape. Hisoka revealed his deception and challenged Chrollo to a fight to the death, which began as the mafia evacuated the diners.

  • Qiao Lun summoned Toad as Hisoka and Chrollo noticed each other in the restaurant.
  • Chrollo grabbed a waiter and tried to flee, but Hisoka’s Nen stopped him while Toad’s tongue seized Neon.
  • Hisoka admitted his involvement in Nobunaga’s death and removed his fake Spider tattoo, declaring that he no longer needed to hide his intentions.
  • Chrollo accepted Hisoka’s challenge and attacked first, sending Hisoka crashing through tables.
  • The mafia security personnel evacuated the diners without interrupting the fight, and Chrollo suspected Neon’s fortune-telling ability had predicted his actions.

Ch. 32Skill Hunter

Qiao Lun watched Chrollo suppress Hisoka with stolen abilities while analyzing their limitations. Outside the restaurant, Shalnark received a warning that Chrollo was in danger and led several Troupe members to intervene, leaving others to capture the disguised Illumi.

  • Qiao Lun deduced that Chrollo had teleported Hisoka and knocked Neon unconscious while observing their fight.
  • Chrollo attacked Hisoka with guided swords and a fire dragon, burning through Bungee Gum and keeping Hisoka on the defensive.
  • Qiao Lun noted that Chrollo's collection of stolen abilities made him difficult to surprise, though he suspected Chrollo was still holding something back.
  • Shalnark received a message saying that Hisoka had taken the bait and that Chrollo was in danger, then ordered some Troupe members to capture Hisoka while he led the others to help their leader.
  • Franklin fired Nen bullets at Illumi, who was disguised as Hisoka, and Bonolenov smashed him through the café window with a high-speed attack.

Ch. 33Illumi exposed

Illumi, disguised as Hisoka, fought off Shizuku, Franklin, and Bonolenov before escaping and exposing that the real Hisoka had switched places with him. Shalnark and the others raced toward the Semetary Building after learning Chrollo had sent a danger signal and might be facing Hisoka, the Nen beast user, and the Chain Killer.

  • Illumi used round-headed needles to control pedestrians and stall Shizuku, Franklin, and Bonolenov as he fled through the streets.
  • Bonolenov and Franklin helped pursue Illumi, but he vanished after leading them into a crowded area.
  • Franklin realized their companion had not been Hisoka, and Shizuku collected the physical needles before the three headed to the Semetary Building.
  • Shalnark, Pakunoda, Feitan, and Phinks hurried toward the Semetary Building after Shalnark received Chrollo's message warning of danger.
  • Shalnark learned from Franklin that the real Hisoka was likely confronting Chrollo, with the Nen beast user and the Chain Killer nearby.

Ch. 34Winner takes all

Qiao Lun guarded the restaurant where Hisoka and Chrollo were fighting, intending to capture both of them while the mafia’s forces clashed with the Phantom Troupe elsewhere in the building. After Kurapika reported that five Troupe members were approaching, Qiao Lun prepared to intercept them.

  • Qiao Lun read Illumi’s warning on Hisoka’s phone, then left the restaurant and ordered his Divine Dogs to guard the doors so neither Hisoka nor Chrollo could escape.
  • An assassin in camouflage approached, but retreated after Qiao Lun revealed that the Phantom Troupe’s leader was inside and the assassin recognized Qiao Lun as a formidable opponent.
  • Silva and Zeno arrived, spoke with Qiao Lun, and then left to pursue the Phantom Troupe members elsewhere in the building.
  • Gunfire broke out downstairs as the Shadow Beasts engaged the Phantom Troupe, and Qiao Lun spotted a giant bat swooping down from the building’s roof.
  • Kurapika called to report that Melody had observed five Phantom Troupe members entering the building and heading toward Qiao Lun’s position.
  • Qiao Lun calculated that the other forces could divide the Troupe’s remaining members and waited by the restaurant doors, ready to intercept the approaching group.

Ch. 35Shadow Beasts

The Phantom Troupe stormed the Semetary Building and fought the Shadow Beasts waiting inside. Shalnark led the others toward the stairs while Feitan and Phinks stayed behind, leaving Leech and Porcupine fighting each other.

  • Feitan and Phinks killed the gunmen outside as antenna-controlled mafia members turned on their companions, and Kortopi sealed the entrance with copied walls.
  • Owl ambushed the Troupe with a falling cloth, but Feitan attacked him and Rabid Dog intervened from beneath the floor.
  • Feitan stayed behind to fight the Shadow Beasts while Shalnark led the others toward the stairs, where Leech and Porcupine blocked their way.
  • Feitan pinned Worm's arm to the floor, and Phinks killed Worm with a charged punch through the marble.
  • Feitan killed Rabid Dog with his sword as Leech bit Porcupine and Porcupine's hair pierced Leech; Shalnark passed them and took two antennas from Kortopi.

Ch. 36Obstacles at Every Turn

The Phantom Troupe fought the Shadow Beasts and the Ten Dons’ assassins as Qiao Lun and Kurapika waited to intercept them upstairs. The chapter ended with Qiao Lun and Kurapika attacking Shalnark and Pakunoda as they reached the eighteenth floor.

  • Shalnark used Kortopi’s counterfeit antenna to control Leech, while the Phantom Troupe defeated several Shadow Beasts and Feitan attacked the survivors.
  • Phinks stayed behind to face Silva and Zeno while Shalnark, Pakunoda, and Kortopi continued upstairs; Kortopi later remained behind as throwing knives came at them.
  • Qiao Lun told Kurapika that Hisoka was not a Phantom Troupe member, and Kurapika received Gon’s message that two troupe members were heading up.
  • Qiao Lun and Kurapika attacked the approaching group with a Toad, Divine Dogs, and chains, but Pakunoda fired from behind a mafia member and Shalnark used him as a shield.

Ch. 37Simple Domain

Shalnark entered Autopilot Mode to fight Qiao Lun while Kurapika attacked Pakunoda. Qiao Lun kept Shalnark at bay and revealed that his Simple Domain could sense Nen and anticipate Shalnark’s attacks.

  • Shalnark realized he had to insert his antenna into himself, and Pakunoda prepared to end his Autopilot Mode once their companions arrived.
  • Shalnark activated Autopilot Mode, and Qiao Lun sent Kurapika after Pakunoda while he confronted Shalnark with the Divine Dogs.
  • Shalnark fought off the Divine Dogs and Qiao Lun, using his enhanced strength and defenses to withstand their attacks.
  • Qiao Lun activated Simple Domain, causing the Divine Dogs to fall back as he continued fighting Shalnark alone.
  • Qiao Lun discovered that Simple Domain could sense Nen and help him anticipate Shalnark’s attacks.

Ch. 38Three in a row × Punching through

Qiao Lun killed Shalnark with a third consecutive Black Flash, then fought Kortopi as more Phantom Troupe members arrived. The chapter ended with Bonolenov charging Qiao Lun while Franklin fired Nen bullets at the restaurant doors behind him.

  • Qiao Lun landed a second Black Flash, saw Shalnark gather his Nen into a defensive Ko, and struck him hard enough to send him through a corridor wall.
  • Qiao Lun pursued Shalnark and drove a third Black Flash through his chest, destroying the antenna that sustained Autopilot Mode and killing him.
  • Kortopi shielded himself and Pakunoda with a torrent of copied tiles, while Pakunoda fired at Qiao Lun and the Divine Dogs struggled to reach them.
  • Qiao Lun used Kortopi's shadow to attack him with a blade, but only grazed his arm before Kortopi reached toward Qiao Lun.
  • Bonolenov and Franklin arrived at the stairs; Bonolenov charged Qiao Lun as Franklin aimed his Nen bullets at the restaurant doors.

Ch. 39A Piece of Trash Who Enjoyed Fighting

Qiao Lun chose to retreat with Kurapika as the Phantom Troupe closed in, using Great Serpent to escape while Hisoka and Chrollo remained locked in combat. The Divine Dogs and Kurapika’s chain disrupted the pursuing Troupe, and Pakunoda was caught and dragged toward Great Serpent.

  • Toad pulled Kurapika out of Franklin’s Nen bullets as Qiao Lun retreated from Bonolenov’s spear.
  • Qiao Lun assessed the battered Hisoka and Chrollo, then told Hisoka he was no better than trash for failing to kill Chrollo.
  • Qiao Lun summoned Great Serpent and sent it charging toward Kurapika to escape with him.
  • Hisoka attacked Chrollo with flying tables and chairs, while Franklin fired Nen bullets at Hisoka and the Divine Dogs pounced on Bonolenov.
  • Kurapika’s chain burst through the floor and caught Pakunoda, dragging her after Great Serpent.

Ch. 40Falling from the building

Qiao Lun used his shikigami to turn the Phantom Troupe’s attempt to capture Pakunoda into a chaotic escape from the eighteenth floor. He and Kurapika fled into the sky with Pakunoda, leaving the Troupe behind.

  • Kortopi grabbed Pakunoda, but her chain wrapped around him too, while Franklin seized Great Serpent’s tail to keep it from escaping.
  • Qiao Lun fused the two Divine Dogs into Divine Dog: Totality, which knocked Bonolenov off Great Serpent and severed the serpent in half.
  • Franklin blasted Great Serpent’s tail with Palm Cannon as Pakunoda and Kortopi were flung from the shattered window.
  • Shizuku ordered Blinky to suck up the chain, but Qiao Lun summoned Max Elephant to break the stalemate and slow their fall.
  • Qiao Lun summoned Nue, which carried him, Kurapika, and Pakunoda into the sky as Franklin fired Nen projectiles after them.
