Somewhere in an unknown star system.
Thousands of warships stood ready for battle here, because an unknown visitor had arrived in this star system. It broadcast no identification signal, and its vessel differed from those of every civilization they knew. It was downright strange.
Over a prolonged period of observation, they had discovered that this ship was actually growing and building itself up. Along the way, it had even used some unknown technology to capture several rogue celestial bodies to process and incorporate into itself.
By the time it approached the star system, the ship had become enormous.
The weapons platforms covering its surface and the long, thick tubes that made one wonder whether they were passageways or cannons all proclaimed that it was not to be trifled with.
"Where in the world did this ship come from?"
On the bridge of one vessel, a blue-purple plant spoke. It resembled a tree that had gained the ability to move. Its roots not only supported its movements but could also operate complex tools and even feed it. Blue fruits hung from its crown, each translucent and gleaming, clearly well maintained and carefully tended like hair.
"We don't know. It may have traveled here through subspace. We contacted the surrounding star systems, but none had any information about this ship. It appeared out of the void, possibly using a large rogue celestial body to complete a spatial jump."
A similar plant spoke, making the apparent commander frown. The skin on his body-or rather, his bark-drew even tighter.
"Report!"
Another plant hurried over, even tripping on the way. He scrambled awkwardly back up and shouted.
"Bad news! That seems to be a human ship. We've captured images!"
"What? Put them on the main screen, now."
"Yes!"
Soon, a clear image appeared on the
