Elliot had no idea where this inexplicably acquired Mechanical Talent had come from.
But whatever. He had figured it out: this world was full of secrets. If he let that make him timid, he would only stop moving forward.
He would use what he could for now and deal with any problems when they arose.
What he needed most now was to hurry and find the Difference Engine. Without it, no matter how safe he was, he was just waiting to die. With it, whatever trouble he encountered, he would have a sliver of hope.
Next, he left everything entirely to instinct and quickly began assembling things by feel.
The parts in this pile of scrap were not enough.
But he noticed several other piles of fallen objects in the distance.
Elliot soon cobbled together a sled. It was not particularly sturdy, but it could just about slide over the ice, and that was enough.
He kept moving back and forth among the parts, sometimes adding something to the sled, sometimes shaking his head and taking it off again.
The parts around him grew more numerous, and his sled grew larger and larger.
Gradually, he was no longer sitting in it, but crawling inside.
After an unknown amount of time, Elliot finally raised his head in sudden realization.
There was no light within the glacier, only the red glow around him faintly illuminating a circle.
He looked at the enormous thing before him.
It still resembled a sled, only far, far bigger.
It was bigger than Forklift, but slightly smaller than the Heavy Truck he had crashed into.
However, an enormous drill had been fitted to the front of this sled.
The whole thing looked extremely crude, even somewhat asymmetrical. After all, it had been pieced together from discarded parts.
