Whether the Nobles' House had the authority to elect an emperor was a subject they could argue over for days and nights.
But now the Empire's order was gradually crumbling, and the various factions were beginning to let their strength do the talking. If Crawford wanted to ascend the throne, he would instead have to rely on the Nobles' House for support.
In other words, it was not that the nobles were electing an emperor, but that the emperor needed the nobles.
And a Crawford who ascended this way was destined to be nothing more than a pawn. No one cared what he actually thought; they had not even invited him to attend this meeting.
Only Elliot knew what kind of emperor these nobles had chosen.
Still...
Elliot narrowed his eyes slightly and looked at Tobias.
This believer of the [Prophet in the Urn] had prophesied long ago, during the Blood Feast, that Crawford would become a Tyrant.
In other words, even knowing full well that Crawford would become a Tyrant, he still intended to carry out the prophecy?
That struck Elliot as rather strange.
Foreseeing the future should have been a means of pursuing benefits and avoiding harm, yet Tobias was letting everything happen simply to obey a prophecy.
Was this future truly destined to happen, or had the believers' obedience chosen this future?
The scriptures of the [Prophet in the Urn] stated that He was a prophet who could foresee everything in the world, yet remained eternally trapped in an urn. He knew everything but had no intention of changing it.
This reminded Elliot of the Hollow Cathedral: just as powerful, and just as powerless.
One could travel into the past, while the other could know the future, yet both always gave him an inexplicable sense of powerlessness.
