He clutched his chest tightly, staggering half a step back against the edge of the desk.
Qingxiao stepped forward, his gaze fixed on the door, his fingers already hooked into Xiqu.
He leaned his ear toward the door. Outside, there was nothing-not a single footstep or breath.
Three seconds later, "Knock, knock, knock."
Another three identical knocks, their rhythm precisely the same.
