Ch. 61Moonshadow Flower

Allen arranged a training program for the mercenaries and left Ailand to oversee it while he sought a Moonshadow Flower needed for his Cloak of Shadows. He found Trick and his mentally ill younger brother Therris, calmed Therris with a potion, and asked Trick what had happened to him.

  • Allen created a physical and combat training schedule for the mercenaries and persuaded them to follow it by promising they could become Professionals.
  • Allen confirmed that Ailand understood the training plan, then went to meet the elf Kuks about his unfinished Cloak of Shadows.
  • Kuks told Allen that he needed a Moonshadow Flower and directed him to Trick, who would trade one if his younger brother's strange illness could be cured.
  • Allen found Trick restraining the terrified Therris, gave Therris a sleeping potion, and fought Trick off with a Wave Spell and a Freezing Spell when Trick attacked him.
  • After Allen explained that Kuks had sent him and that he wanted the Moonshadow Flower, Trick took Allen and the sleeping Therris back to their home.
  • Allen asked Trick what had caused Therris's mind to suffer a shock.

Ch. 62Therris's wounded soul

Trick told Allen how his brother Therris had been struck by terror in Tirisfal Glades and left mentally impaired, and Allen examined Therris’s wounded soul. Allen found that Therris’s soul still remained but was suffering, and he offered Trick potions to help care for him.

  • Trick explained that an unknown force had terrified him and Therris in Tirisfal Glades, after which Therris became severely disturbed and their employer refused to pay them.
  • Trick described Therris’s worsening condition and led Allen to examine him after a Soul Return Potion had provided only temporary relief.
  • Allen used his Mental Power to enter Therris’s soul and sensed its thin defenses, fear, and pain before withdrawing without attempting to touch it.
  • Allen reassured Trick that Therris’s soul had not dissipated, then accepted Trick’s invitation to dinner.
  • Allen told Trick to come with him for potions and gave him Calming Potions, explaining that they were ordinary concoctions.

Ch. 63The Incantation's Purpose

After accepting the Moonshadow Flower from Trick, Allen concluded that his Incantation might repair Therris's injured soul, though he could not use it on the mad boy. The next morning, Allen bought equipment for his mercenaries and went with Ailand to the House of Brill to find him suitable gear.

  • Trick gave Allen the Moonshadow Flower as payment in advance, trusting him because of his kindness toward Trick and Therris.
  • Allen gave Trick a Calming Potion, reviewed his experiment notes, and reasoned that the Incantation strengthened and might repair the soul, but he had no way to use it on Therris.
  • The next morning, Allen found Ailand drilling the mercenaries and praised him for his work as an instructor.
  • Allen took Ailand and two squad leaders to a weapon shop, bought twelve sets of weapons and chainmail after bargaining the price down to 150 gold coins, and paid a deposit.
  • Allen sent the squad leaders back and accompanied Ailand to the House of Brill to look for his equipment.

Ch. 64Events from Ten Thousand Years Ago

Allen obtained the Moonshadow Flower and asked Kuks about ways to restore Therris’s damaged soul, then visited Trick and announced that he would enter Tirisfal Glades in three days to investigate the invisible monsters. He returned to his lodgings to prepare for the dangerous trip.

  • Ailand chose silk armor and a two-handed thrusting sword, and Allen paid 150 gold coins for the equipment.
  • Allen gave Kuks the Moonshadow Flower and asked him to finish the Cloak of Shadows within three days; Kuks described the Sunwell, the World Tree, and demigods as possible ways to heal a soul.
  • Allen and Kuks discussed the nature of souls, with Kuks viewing them as a special form of energy while Allen remained unconvinced.
  • Allen visited Trick, learned that Therris’s condition was worsening, and said his proposed treatment required Therris to cooperate while conscious.
  • Allen told Trick he would enter Tirisfal Glades in three days to find the invisible monsters, then returned to prepare for the journey.

Ch. 65Battle

Allen fought and killed an Evil Spirit, then discovered that it had left behind a transparent core containing negative emotions. Believing it could be soul material, he began searching for more Evil Spirits and prepared to lure a second one into a secluded place.

  • Allen found that his Wind Blades passed through the Evil Spirit, but his Scorching Wind hurt it and it attacked his Mental Power.
  • Allen learned to defend against the Evil Spirit’s mental attacks, concentrated his Mental Power, and wore it down until it died.
  • The Evil Spirit unleashed a soul-shaking final attack, but Allen’s Soul Space protected him.
  • Allen found a transparent object left by the Evil Spirit and sensed its negative emotions, concluding that it might be the soul material he had been seeking.
  • After three days of searching, Allen found a smaller Evil Spirit, chose a secluded place, and began luring it over.

Ch. 66Soul Resonance

Allen explored whether souls could resonate through mental power and failed to make a magic array channel it like mana. He then visited Trick and found Therris's madness worsening, with the man endlessly shouting about killing, bugs, and thieves.

  • Allen connected his ideas about souls to Archmage Modera's mana resonance theory and tried to influence a crystal with his mental power.
  • Allen made a drawing mixture and inscribed a mana gathering array on wolf hide, but discovered that mental power could not flow through the crystal like mana.
  • Allen left his failed experiment and went to visit Trick, whom he had not seen since returning.
  • Allen saw Therris screaming and moving about in a maddened state, and Trick said Therris's condition had grown worse.
  • Allen told Trick he had returned about ten days earlier and offered to give him more potions when needed.

Ch. 67Therris's Awakening

Allen developed a more efficient magic array on the Soul Book’s cover and used it to begin repairing Therris’s damaged soul. Therris remained unconscious afterward, and Allen told Trick that he expected him to recover in about a week.

  • A crystal’s soul fluctuations helped Allen repair his Soul Space, but the wolf-hide array burned through the crystal too quickly.
  • Allen spent several weeks designing a soul-burning array and a conducting solution for the Soul Book’s Deadman’s Tree cover.
  • Trick arrived with Therris after they had been thrown out for lack of money, and Allen offered them a place to stay and promised he could cure Therris.
  • Allen engraved and activated the revised array on the Soul Book cover, slowing the crystal’s burning rate to less than a tenth of its previous speed.
  • Allen used the array to guide Therris’s soul while practicing the Incantation, then told Trick that Therris would need about a week to recover.

Ch. 68Returning Home

Allen returned to Kuks's residence and learned from a letter that Kuks had gone to Silvermoon City, then heard that Trick and Therris were leaving Brill to settle an unresolved matter. After the Mograine Family's investigation found nothing unusual in the glades, Allen prepared to return to Little Hill Village and then Dalaran.

  • Allen found Kuks's home deserted, read his letter about the summons to Silvermoon City, and left a reply saying he had returned.
  • Trick and Therris told Allen they would leave Brill the next day, and Trick explained that they needed to settle a matter so it would not cause Allen trouble.
  • Allen watched the brothers leave, then delayed his own departure after hearing the Mograine Family would investigate the hauntings in the glades.
  • The Mograine Family's investigation teams returned in less than a week without finding Evil Spirits or anything unusual, and Allen decided not to enter the glades again.
  • Allen gathered his supplies and followers and rode out of Brill, planning to stop at Little Hill Village before returning to Dalaran.

Ch. 69The hunting organization

Allen spent time with his family in Little Hill Village, learned of Andre’s death, and remembered his promise to Joey’s son George. After discovering a disguised intruder casting a communication spell at the village entrance, Allen captured and began interrogating him.

  • Allen introduced Ailand to Jason, and the family shared dinner together before Ailand left to attend to the followers outside the village.
  • Jason told Allen that Andre, the lord of Shante City, had died, and refused Allen’s request to take Old Jack along on the journey.
  • Allen found Joey’s badge and resolved to deliver the ten gold coins he owed Joey’s son, George, in Poplar Village.
  • Allen spotted a disguised man casting a communication spell at the village entrance and restrained him with Wave Spells and Freezing Spells.
  • Allen used a crystal’s negative emotions to torment the captive, who began to speak.

Ch. 70Alina and her husband

Allen forced Crick to accept a poison bluff in exchange for reporting on the Hunting Organization, then left for Darrowshire to search for George. He found George’s aunt’s house in Poplar Village, but the chapter ended before he reached her.

  • Allen bluffed Crick with Duskweed powder and threatened him into reporting the Hunting Organization’s activities every six months.
  • Allen left Ailand and the others to travel to Dalaran while he rode toward Darrowshire.
  • Allen reached Darrowshire, learned where Poplar Village was, and bought a map.
  • Allen asked villagers and the village chief about George, then went to George’s aunt’s house on the outskirts of Poplar Village.

Ch. 71Three Little Brats

Allen attended Captain Joseph and Mary's wedding banquet to find the human trafficker connected to George, and Nightingale directed him to a noble in red. Allen followed the noble to Kenelst and captured the trafficker, who began to remember George after Allen described him.

  • Allen accepted an invitation to Captain Joseph and Mary's wedding banquet, hoping to find Kenelst.
  • Allen asked the nobles about the trafficker, and Nightingale told him to follow a noble dressed in red.
  • After the banquet, Allen followed the noble to a manor and overheard him discussing Kenelst's human-trafficking business.
  • Allen restrained Kenelst and demanded information about George, whom Alina had sold to him.
  • After Allen said George was under nine and from Poplar Village, Kenelst remembered him and began to answer.

Ch. 72Taking a Pupil

Allen told George that his father Joey had died, then agreed to take Rivis with him and teach him magic. Rivis’s training path remained undecided as the chapter ended.

  • Allen learned that Rivis had been trafficked as a child and Baze had been separated from his family and lost his memories.
  • Allen told George that Joey had died and gave him Joey’s badge, leaving George in tears.
  • Nightingale denied killing Kenelst to an old woman, who warned him that the organization’s mission had to be completed.
  • Rivis asked to follow Allen and learn magic, and Allen agreed to take him along and teach him.
  • Allen considered whether Rivis should follow his unusual magical path, which required long practice before he could form a Soul Space.

Ch. 73Controversy

Allen began teaching Rivis, George, and Baze the Chinese characters in the Incantation while training them during their journey. After destroying a Gnoll outpost, he asked the boys what they thought about killing the Gnolls and was left to respond to their differing views.

  • Allen tested Rivis's Mental Power, then agreed to let George and Baze learn alongside him.
  • Allen explained that he could not teach the boys ordinary magic and began teaching them the Incantation's Chinese characters, while also instructing them in Common and combat.
  • When the group encountered a Gnoll outpost, George described how to assess an enemy, and Rivis explained the weaknesses of different Gnoll types.
  • Allen sent the boys to hide, then destroyed the outpost's tents with Scorching Wind and killed the Gnolls with Whirlwind.
  • Baze questioned whether killing the Gnolls was wrong, George said there was nothing wrong with killing monsters, and Rivis said the weak had nothing to complain about when killed.

Ch. 74Khadgar's letter (1)

Allen learned that orcs had invaded Azeroth and considered how they might attack Stormwind, then returned to Dalaran and spent all his money on the third-tier spell Hurricane. A week later, he had learned the spell, and the chapter ended as he was about to do something else.

  • Allen asked Hannes about Stormwind City and reasoned that the orcs might attack through Deadwind Pass or expand by striking nearby towns.
  • Allen returned to the inn, where George and Rivis excitedly asked how he knew the legion commander, and he told them about saving poisoned soldiers in Kaltz.
  • Grete and Jack visited Allen, and Grete said he had become a captain; they discussed the king’s conflict with the nobles over breakfast.
  • Allen traveled back to Dalaran after three days, left the three children with Ailand, and went to the Association to sell materials and buy a spell.
  • Allen spent all his money on the third-tier spell Hurricane and learned it after a week.

Ch. 75Khadgar's Letters (2)

Allen read Khadgar’s letters about meeting Medivh, organizing his magical Library, and becoming Medivh’s apprentice. Khadgar’s latest letter described a dangerous mission in the Blasted Lands and ended as he began explaining the captured half-orc’s request.

  • Khadgar wrote that Medivh identified him as a Dalaran spy through Magic Tracing but chose to trust him and put him in charge of the Library.
  • Khadgar described sorting the magical books and told Allen that Medivh had offered to take him as an apprentice.
  • Khadgar wrote that Medivh sent him to investigate powerful green-skinned monsters in the Blasted Lands, where he nearly died before Medivh rescued him.
  • Khadgar reported that he and Medivh captured a female half-orc who spoke Common and claimed to be a Horde envoy seeking an audience with her king.

Ch. 76George's Allegiance

Allen offered George the chance to work for him, warning that the Hreliff Family might strike again, while George hesitated over leaving his family. When a Hreliff representative tried to continue dealing with Allen and discredit George, Allen demanded that the family head come speak with him.

  • Allen asked George whether he regretted rejoining the Hreliff Family and offered him a position, giving him a week to decide.
  • Allen warned George that the people who had moved against him might attack again, and they agreed to meet in a week.
  • Allen passed the test to become a third-tier mage and bought materials from the Association to brew potions.
  • Hillman visited Allen and claimed George had embezzled from the Hreliff Family, then offered to continue their business dealings at a higher price.
  • Ailand defended George, and Allen ordered Hillman to bring the family head to meet him, invoking the Alchemy Association's connections.
  • Hillman returned to the Hreliff Family and informed his father, who had instigated the dispute.

Ch. 77Spell Improvements and Rivis's Jealousy

George joined Allen as a follower and took charge of daily needs and potion sales. After a month of research, Allen developed Soul Scorch but still struggled to combine several spells into an improved Whirlwind, so he left the laboratory for a break.

  • George came to Allen after suffering injuries and agreed to become his follower, while Allen stopped him from treating himself like a slave.
  • Allen assigned George to manage his followers' daily needs and sell potions, offering him five percent of net proceeds for sales at or above market price.
  • Allen spent a month improving spells, adjusting Airburst Spell and expanding Scorching Wind's range.
  • Allen combined Scorching Wind with a mental attack to create Soul Scorch, which could silence enemies and restrict their movement.
  • Allen tried to build a stronger Whirlwind by combining several spells, but rune interference repeatedly caused the spell to fail.
  • Allen left the laboratory to take a break and saw three youngsters training in the courtyard.

Ch. 78Terrible news

Allen learned from Khadgar that King Llane had rejected help against the orcs and that Lothar suspected Medivh had summoned them. As Allen considered Medivh’s immense power, he began quietly preparing for the coming disaster.

  • George reported that potion sales had brought in 251 gold coins after costs, and Allen asked about recent news.
  • Allen learned that Balo had been nominated for the Kirin Tor’s Supreme Wisdom after publishing a paper on improving magic bombs, then found Dalaran had little information about the orcs.
  • An attendant gave Allen a letter from Khadgar describing the king’s refusal to seek aid, Lothar’s suspicions about Medivh, and Khadgar’s resolve to investigate his mentor.
  • Allen questioned how Medivh could summon so many orcs and wondered whether Dalaran’s leaders knew the reason for his power.
  • Allen began stockpiling potion ingredients and sealing away most of the potions he brewed while working to improve his spells.

Ch. 79Medivh's fall

Lothar, Khadgar, and Garona confronted the demonized Medivh, but his overwhelming power left Lothar near death. As Medivh struggled against the demon’s control, a mysterious being invaded his body and began exploring his memories.

  • Lothar confronted Medivh over his betrayal, but Medivh rejected his pleas and transformed further under the influence of Fel energy.
  • Khadgar tried to reach Medivh by invoking his mother, provoking Medivh into a furious outburst and an apparent struggle with her influence.
  • Garona attacked Medivh from stealth, but he detected her and struck her with Fel Impact.
  • Lothar and Khadgar attacked Medivh together, but his spells and Magic Shield overwhelmed them, and Khadgar was sent flying.
  • Medivh struck Lothar down and hesitated over killing him as he fought the demon’s control.
  • A mysterious being seized the opening and invaded Medivh’s body, searching through his memories.

Ch. 80The Decision

King Terenas gathered Lordaeron’s military, religious, and political leaders to prepare for war against the Orcs, resettle Stormwind’s refugees, and rebuild the Alliance. After young Arthas voiced his determination to defend the people, Terenas and Delania discussed persuading the other monarchs to join.

  • Terenas told Alexandros, Uther, Alonsus, Delania, and Abbendis that he would support Lothar’s request and prepare to fight the Orcs.
  • Delania proposed seeking the nobles’ financial support, and Alonsus pledged to persuade his disciples to back the king.
  • Terenas called for the human kingdoms to reform the Alliance, while Uther raised the problem of Stormwind’s refugees.
  • Delania suggested that the Alliance share responsibility for the refugees, and Terenas accepted.
  • Arthas entered the meeting, declared that they should defeat the invading monsters, and heard Terenas urge him to protect Lordaeron’s people.
  • After the meeting, Terenas asked Delania to stay, and Delania pointed out that the other monarchs also needed to join the Alliance.
