The flames did no damage to the Six-Tails. Itachi had never expected Fire Release alone to kill Utakata; everything he had done was merely to focus Utakata's attention on the flames.
Seeing Utakata fall into the trap, the black tomoe in Itachi's left eye instantly filled his entire eyeball.

Although it was not a Mangekyō Sharingan, the immense amount of chakra empowering it made it comparable to one.
Utakata froze for a moment, and that moment gave Xiaren his opening. Susanoo's longsword pinned the Six-Tails' body straight to the ground.

Utakata roared in pain and reverted to his Partial Tailed Beast Transformation. In that form, he stretched out his body and wrapped it around Xiaren's Susanoo.
Then his Tailed Beast Cloak released highly acidic gas, and even the mighty Susanoo began to melt.
Seeing this, Itachi wanted to rush over to help, but Mei Terumi blocked his path. There had been few Konoha ninja to begin with, and after fighting for so long, no one could spare a hand to help him.
Xiaren's chakra was nearly depleted, and his vision was almost gone, yet his face still wore an arrogant expression.

A sword came slashing down, forcing Utakata to dodge.

Highly corrosive acid splashed over Susanoo with a sizzling sound. Xiaren paid it no mind. He knew he could not hold out much longer and had to clear away some small fry for Itachi.
With that thought, Xiaren directed Susanoo to attack the surrounding Kirigakure ninja. Each swing of its sword claimed more than a dozen lives.
