After Kahn joined the team, Aang and the other two promptly found Appa and Momo, who had wandered off. At last, Team Avatar was fully assembled.
Appa was a Sky Bison, enormous in size, with a pair of sturdy horns, six thick legs, and a tail like a platypus's. He was furry all over, with an arrow on his head just like Aang's, and looked endearingly goofy.
He was Aang's mount and companion, and could fly.
Legend had it that after the Lion Turtles granted the Air Nomads the ability to bend air, they learned Airbending from the Sky Bison. Thus, for thousands of years, the Air Nomads and Sky Bison had lived together, each supporting the other.
Momo, meanwhile, was a Flying Lemur, with large ears and membranes between his arms and body like a flying squirrel's that allowed him to fly, though according to the books, his species should already have been extinct.
As a child, Kahn had read a book introducing the animals of this world, and they had been mentioned in it. Back then, he had even thought that if he ever had the chance, he would definitely find a powerful, magnificent magical animal to ride.
Of course, he had found something better afterward.
