According to Ty Lee, the mechanism required them to wait for a particular date and time. When the sunlight reflected by the mirror atop the tower struck the ruby, the door would open automatically.

But they had no patience to wait.

"Then let's leave it at that. Let's go."

"Don't you want to look inside?"

Seeing that Kahn had no intention of entering and was about to turn away, Ty Lee asked in puzzlement.

Then she suggested:

"Actually, I don't think we have to wait for a specific time. We just need some tools to reflect the light onto the ruby."

"Thanks for the suggestion, but let's forget it."

Kahn shook his head, looking around with a smile.

"I don't know if you noticed, but this temple is clearly much cleaner than the other buildings we saw along the way. Not only is it intact, but there aren't any plants climbing over it or weeds growing around it."

"You're right!"

Kahn's words brought Ty Lee to a sudden realization. She had thought this temple looked somewhat unusual, and now she knew why.

"That clearly makes no sense for a ruin abandoned for a thousand years. The only explanation is that this temple hasn't been abandoned at all, and the locals have been taking meticulous care of it."

Kahn continued with a smile:

"This temple must hold extraordinary significance for the locals. It wouldn't be good to offend them by casually wandering inside."

If this really were an abandoned ruin, he certainly would not have minded exploring it-or rather, he would have done so with great enthusiasm.

But he knew the Ancient Sun Warriors still lived here in seclusion, and he had come to ask something of them. Making enemies of them over this would cost him more than he gained.
