Kahn prepared a secret weapon to counter Amon’s Bloodbending, and Korra publicly challenged Amon to a duel beneath Avatar Aang’s statue. Amon recognized the challenge as a trap but decided he had to attend.
Korra lured Amon to the Aang Statue Memorial Island for a duel, but Amon ambushed her with Equalist elites. After they bound her, Korra summoned Four Directions and turned the fight against them, leaving Amon facing her again.
Kahn’s secret weapon, the deity Four Directions, turned the fight against Amon by resisting bloodbending and helping Korra defeat the Equalist elites. Amon recognized Four Directions as a deity, declared deities targets too, then escaped into the sea.
Korra defeated Amon with Four Directions and captured him as he fled, while Kahn secretly struck him with his Lightbending Technique. The chapter ended with Korra unmasking Amon and discovering that his face had no firebending scars, though it looked familiar to her.
After Amon’s defeat, Republic City dealt with the Equalists’ remaining threat while Tarrlok revealed his family connection to Amon. Korra unlocked Airbending and prepared to begin Spiritbending, as Azula pointed Kahn toward the Sato Family as a possible source of the Equalists’ equipment.
Kahn and Azula watched Korra, Mako, Asami Sato, and Bolin tangle themselves in a confusing set of romances while Korra began learning Spiritbending. A Southern Water Tribe councilor then asked Kahn to investigate spirits attacking ships, and Kahn invited Azula to travel south for the Ice Spirit Festival and the investigation.
Kahn and Azula traveled to the South Pole, where Tonraq and Katara welcomed them and asked Kahn to help investigate spirits attacking ships. The city had grown into a prosperous settlement, and Tonraq began explaining the attacks as they arrived at his home.
Kahn and Azula traveled with Tonraq toward the South Pole Holy Land while investigating an angry deity and the ancient passage between the Spirit World and Human World. Near the holy land, Kahn spotted a purplish-black figure that screeched and attacked them.
Kahn restored a Dark Spirit and learned that it had been driven to attack by someone who forced negative emotions into it. He suspected the culprit was a Water Tribe Spiritbender, and Tonraq recognized someone who might fit.
Tonraq told Kahn and Azula how he had been banished from the Northern Water Tribe after damaging its sacred grounds, and Kahn suspected his brother Unalaq had orchestrated both the old and current deity attacks. Tonraq revealed Unalaq wanted to unite the tribes, while Kahn wondered whether he was also seeking the power of the Spirit of Darkness.
As the Ice Spirit Festival approached, Kahn and Azula spent time with Katara’s family and encountered another angry spirit whose response supported their suspicions. Korra and her friends arrived for the festival, followed by the Northern Water Tribe’s delegation, leaving Tonraq wary of Unalaq’s visit.
Unalaq arrived in the Southern Water Tribe for the Ice Spirit Festival, where his tense reunion with Tonraq revealed their opposing views on tradition and the spirits. Kahn and Azula joined the festivities, and Korra’s mention of Kahn’s involvement left Unalaq asking who he was.
Unalaq tried to persuade Korra to study Spiritbending with him, but Tonraq insisted that Kahn was already her teacher. At the banquet, Unalaq learned that Kahn was young and unfamiliar to him, while Kahn welcomed the prospect of meeting him.
Kahn pretended to be an inexperienced Spiritbender to draw information from Unalaq, who explained the polar portals and Vaatu’s release. Kahn revealed he had manipulated Unalaq, leaving the chief grimly asking what Kahn wanted.
Kahn confronted Unalaq over his plans to corrupt spirits, unite the Water Tribes, and release Vaatu, then wounded him when Unalaq threatened him with his authority and diplomacy. Kahn transferred his memories of Unalaq’s scheme to Korra, who took her uncle for medical treatment while she tried to process what she had learned.
After Unalaq’s fleet arrived to seize Kahn, Kahn destroyed the Northern Water Tribe’s warships with his Lightbending Technique. Tonraq ordered his soldiers to rescue the survivors, while Kahn left the consequences to him.
