Lu Heng still wanted to ask her why she needed to "prepare for a rainy day," but in the end, he held back. This woman came from another world, and clearly, she knew everything about this one.
Then did her wariness of Xiao Jing mean...
Lu Heng refused to think any further. Xiao Jing was a girl he had grown up with, innocent and kind. He did not believe she truly harbored any ill intent.
"Get out."
"Oh," Xia Zhi said.
She turned to unfasten her seat belt.
Huh?
Why wouldn't it come undone?
Lu Heng had already pushed open the car door to get out, but when he turned and saw Xia Zhi fiddling with her seat belt, he leaned back inside.
"What's wrong?"
Xia Zhi looked to him for help. "It seems to be stuck."
Lu Heng leaned over to check. His hand inadvertently brushed her fingertips, and Xia Zhi instinctively drew them back, leaving the task of releasing the buckle to him.
With the man so close, she had to press herself firmly against the seat, holding her breath without daring to make a sound.
Click.
The seat belt came undone smoothly. Lu Heng looked up at her. "There."
They were unexpectedly close. As Lu Heng spoke, his warm breath brushed gently over Xia Zhi's chin. Looking at the handsome face mere inches away, Xia Zhi thought he was so gorgeous he could tempt someone into a crime.
Xia Zhi swallowed, filled with regret. Too bad he's gay, damn it. What a waste.
Lu Heng's expression abruptly turned cold, and he ordered in a low voice,
"Get out."
Xia Zhi hurriedly followed him obediently.
Seeing Lu Heng was like seeing an alien for Lu Kuo. He even felt the urge to reach out and pinch the guy to check whether he was real, only for Lu Heng to dodge him in disgust.
"Dirty."
"Stay away from me."
Lu Kuo breathed a sigh of relief. "That's more like it. I thought my own little brother had been replaced by an alien."
Lu Heng could not stand hospitals more than anything. He thought even the air here was full of germs, and he had never been willing to visit a hospital, much less touch anything inside one.
"What did you need me for?"
As he asked, Lu Kuo looked at Lu Heng, then at Xia Zhi.
It really was remarkable.
Not only had Lu Heng come to the hospital today, but he had even brought his wife. This inevitably suggested a possibility to Lu Kuo. "Xia Zhi, are you expecting?"
Xia Zhi blinked her large eyes. "Expecting what?"
"A baby," Lu Kuo said.
Xia Zhi laughed. "How could I be? Aheng and I haven't even..."
Halfway through, she realized something was wrong and quickly stopped.
Lu Kuo pressed her. "Haven't even what?"
Xia Zhi gave a couple of laughs. "Nothing. We just... we're not planning on having children yet. We'll talk about that later."
Lu Kuo did not quite approve. "Aheng, you two have been married for so many years now. Grandma's still hoping for a grandson. You should start thinking about a baby."
"You're the oldest in the family," Lu Heng countered coolly.
Lu Kuo immediately looked guilty. "But I don't even have a girlfriend yet. You two will have to put in the work first."
"Right, what did you two need me for?"
Xia Zhi had come to return the car keys, but she had a more important mission-
Namely, to pluck a hair from the male lead.
So she did not rush to take out the keys. Instead, she made a show of looking around. "Lu Kuo, this is my first time here. Aren't you going to show us around your workplace?"
Lu Kuo was speechless.
Was she sure this was her first time at the hospital?
"And your living quarters."
Lu Kuo studied Xia Zhi suspiciously, unsure what she was up to. "You want to see where I stay?"
Xia Zhi looked excited. "Yes, I'm curious."
Utterly puzzled, Lu Kuo looked at Lu Heng, his eyes clearly asking, "What's going on with your wife?" But Lu Heng acted as though he did not understand and nodded in agreement.
"I haven't seen it either."
Lu Kuo was speechless.
Did that mean he wanted to see it too?
What was going on with this young couple today?
Lu Kuo found himself understanding less and less of what these two did in their daily lives.
"All right, I'll take you there, but it's a little messy."
The break room had two beds arranged as bunks, and everyone had a wardrobe.
"Lu Kuo, which bed do you sleep in?" Xia Zhi asked.
Seeing Xia Zhi watching him with shining eyes, seemingly suppressing some unknown excitement, Lu Kuo thought something was wrong. This girl hasn't fallen out of love with him and fallen for me, has she?
That won't do.
Xia Zhi is nice and all, but I can't turn against my brother over a woman.
"Everyone takes turns sleeping in these two beds, but I use the bottom bunk more often."
Hearing that they took turns sleeping in them, Xia Zhi felt utterly dismayed.
Hearing the same thing, Lu Heng instinctively stepped back, unable to conceal the disgust on his face.
Xia Zhi thought quickly. "Lu Kuo, you have clothes in your wardrobe, right?"
Lu Kuo did not know why she was asking, but he answered honestly anyway.
"Yes."
"Of course, there are some other personal belongings in there too."
His implication was that he did not want to show Xia Zhi.
Xia Zhi hurried over to the wardrobes. "Lu Kuo, which one is yours? Could you open it and let me have a look?"
Lu Kuo was speechless.
This is going too far.
Can't this woman recognize a polite refusal?
He quickly turned to give Lu Heng a meaningful look, signaling for him to rein in his wife.
But Lu Heng had just discovered that someone could actually leave Lu Kuo at a loss. How interesting.
Lu Kuo had always teased him in all sorts of ways. Now, seeing his brother flounder, Lu Heng truly felt the satisfaction of what went around coming around.
Speechless, Lu Kuo opened his wardrobe. To his surprise, Xia Zhi did not merely look. She craned her neck and rummaged through it with her hands, leaving him dumbfounded.
Yet his own little brother simply watched indulgently, letting Xia Zhi do as she pleased without stopping her.
It really was...
Far too bizarre.
To Xia Zhi's disappointment, she did not find a single hair in Lu Kuo's wardrobe.
Seriously?
Is a grown man's hair really rooted that firmly? Doesn't any of it fall out?
Do I have to do it myself?
Hearing Xia Zhi's thoughts, Lu Heng frowned slightly. He did not like Xia Zhi putting her hands on other men, even if she had no choice for the sake of completing her mission.
Just then, a young nurse called anxiously from outside.
"Dr. Lu, are you in the break room?"
"The patient in bed nine is demanding to see you again."
Lu Kuo felt a weight lift from his shoulders. Although he loathed that spoiled young lady in bed nine, at this moment, he was immensely grateful that she was making trouble.
"Aheng, Xiao Xia, I have a patient I need to check on first. You two..."
He was showing them out.
Seeing that Lu Kuo was about to leave, Xia Zhi had no time left to hesitate. She hurriedly lunged toward him. "Lu Kuo!"
Seeing Xia Zhi throw herself at him with such fervor, Lu Kuo was terrified and quickly dodged to the side.
Xia Zhi lunged at empty air.
Then someone caught her by the back of her collar. She turned to see the main villain looking at her coldly.
Realizing how abnormal her behavior had just been, Xia Zhi hastily gave the main villain an apologetic smile. "Honey..."
"I... I just saw a gray hair on Lu Kuo's head."
"I wanted to pluck it out for him."
Lu Kuo was shocked. "I have a gray hair?"
He quickly took out a mirror and examined himself from every angle. "Where? Why can't I see it?"
Lu Heng was speechless.
His older brother was extraordinarily vain.
"I'll take a look for you."
Before you continue
