After tucking Lin Fengmian in, Xia Qinghe tiptoed out of the room. Only once he was out of the hotel did he straighten his back, adjust his suit, and get into the car that had been waiting for ages, his expression unchanged.
Seeing President Xia back to normal, Secretary Su breathed a sigh of relief. He had genuinely feared that if their branch-office colleagues saw this other side of President Xia, their idealized image of him would shatter, leaving them wondering whether something was wrong with their eyes and they were hallucinating.
Lin Sui went to a nearby supermarket, bought a pile of snacks and drinks, and carried them back to the hotel's top-floor Presidential Suite.
He swiped the card Secretary Su had given him to open the door. The suite was silent. Lin Sui didn't go looking for Lin Fengmian. Xia Qinghe had hauled the guy from the hotel to the hospital, where the doctor had drawn blood and hooked him up to machines without managing to wake him.
With his current abilities, he couldn't wake Lin Fengmian either.
He found the sofa, settled into it, and entertained himself by scrolling through his phone.
His phone was so much fun that he kept playing until evening. Xia Qinghe returned looking vicious, tugging off his tie as he walked and throwing it on the floor, only to double back and pick it up.
Lin Sui stood up. "President Xia, you're back."
Xia Qinghe gave a faint hum. As he hung up his jacket, he suddenly ducked, and a pillow flew past, grazing his scalp.
Then a knee driven toward him from behind slammed into his back.
Xia Qinghe reached back to grab him, but Lin Fengmian nimbly dodged. His grappling move failed, and he changed direction midway, going straight for Xia Qinghe's face.
Xia Qinghe clamped his legs around Lin "Raging Bull Seeing Red" Fengmian, trying to keep his face out of Lin Fengmian's reach.
"Fuck, not the face!"
"You've got some nerve saying that."
"I was wrong."
"What did you do wrong?"
"You really want me to say it?"
"Say it."
"You'll regret it."
"Heh." Lin Fengmian slammed his head into Xia Qinghe's forehead, and Xia Qinghe screamed.
It hurt like hell. Apparently, he really was angry this time.
Lin Sui hadn't expected the two, who were normally so close they could share a pair of pants, to start fighting without warning-and so fiercely, too. He was debating whether to break it up when a look from Secretary Su stopped him.
Secretary Su shared his experience. "When they fight, never try to break it up."
Lin Sui watched the two fight more and more fiercely. Xia Qinghe's forehead was so swollen he looked as though he was growing a horn. Lin Fengmian wasn't much better off: Xia Qinghe had bitten his face, earning himself a punch to his right eye from Lin Fengmian.
It immediately turned dark.
"If they keep fighting like this, someone's going to die, aren't they?"
"They may look like they're trying to kill each other, but none of the places they hit are lethal. They only go for the fleshy bits. Those two are great actors. Watch a few more times and you'll get used to it."
Lin Sui's temple twitched. Was this really something you could get used to? He feared that if he didn't intervene, the two would knock each other out.
Ignoring Secretary Su, he went to break up the fight. The moment he approached, he took a kick to the stomach and a punch to his left eye, making a matching pair with Xia Qinghe.
"Fuck." Lin Sui fell to the floor, doubled over like a shrimp, one hand covering his eye and the other clutching his stomach.
Secretary Su swiftly dragged him out of the fray, exasperated by his failure to listen. "I told you not to get involved in anything between these two. Why wouldn't you listen?"
"The Fourth Young Master always held back before. For him to be this ruthless today, President Xia must have done something unforgivable."
"Is that so?" Lin Sui obediently huddled behind Secretary Su, his eyes fixed on the two fighting to the death in the living room, terrified that another kick might suddenly come flying and send him out of the hotel.
Then, when he reached the underworld, his record would say he'd been kicked away and fallen to his death while trying to break up a fight. What a joke that would be.
The two fetched snacks and pulled up stools, watching the whole fight until the combatants were exhausted and stopped, panting.
Secretary Su gave Lin Sui an "I told you so" look and brushed the potato-chip seasoning off his hands. "Like I said, they know their limits."
Lin Sui: "..." When did you ever say they knew their limits?
If beating each other black and blue around the eyes counted as knowing their limits, what would not knowing their limits look like?
Xia Qinghe cautiously edged closer, sporting two black eyes, and nuzzled Lin Fengmian.
Lin Fengmian pushed his face away.
Unbothered, Xia Qinghe kept nuzzling him. "Mianmian, I was wrong."
Lin Fengmian felt the bastard still needed a beating. "Say you won't dare do it again."
Remembering the soul-stealing pleasure of last night, Xia Qinghe hemmed and hawed for ages, unable to get the words out.
Lin Fengmian pushed Xia Qinghe down, sat on him, and pummeled him with flailing fists, gritting his teeth. "Say it."
Xia Qinghe kept his mouth shut tighter than a clam. Seeing this, Lin Fengmian knew what the bastard was thinking. "You want to use it again?!"
Xia Qinghe blinked, making himself look harmless. "Can I?"
"In. Your. Dreams." Lin Fengmian rolled off him and lay down on the spot, unwilling to move.
He was exhausted. Xia Qinghe wriggled over and pressed against Lin Fengmian. "Mianmian, I'll lend you mine to use too, and we'll be even. Okay?"
"I don't need it."
"Use it." Like a child wheedling, Xia Qinghe nudged against Lin Fengmian. "Please use it."
Lin Fengmian wasn't falling for that. He wriggled farther away from Xia Qinghe.
Xia Qinghe copied him, wriggling over after him. "Please, let's swap."
"This is how close buddies help each other out. Ask Li Yang if you don't believe me."
"Like hell I believe you. Get lost." Li Yang was gay. What the hell was the point of asking him?
Unable to shake off this clinger, Lin Fengmian simply got up. As he passed Secretary Su, he said, "Secretary Su, throw Xia Qinghe's luggage out later. I don't want to stay with him."
Secretary Su remained where he was. Only Lin Sui looked a little lost after hearing that. At that moment, he finally felt the pressure of the Lin Family's Fourth Young Master from Lin Fengmian.
Secretary Su continued passing on his experience in a whisper. "Generally, let words like that go in one ear and out the other. Just listen and leave it at that. Never take them seriously."
Lin Sui: What kind of routine is this now?
"We're the only outsiders here. Never take those two close buddies' little games seriously, or things can go wrong." Having learned countless lessons himself, Secretary Su shared everything he knew with the newcomer. "Especially things said in anger like that. I'm telling you, the Fourth Young Master will stay angry until bedtime at the latest."
"Why?" Lin Sui genuinely didn't understand.
"Haven't you noticed that President Xia is the Fourth Young Master's Abeibei?"
"His what?" An Abeibei could be a person? Fuck, his daughter's Abeibei was her little teddy bear.
"He's almost thirty, and he still has an attachment to a comfort object?"
Once he understood, Lin Sui felt mentally exhausted. His worldview had been upended far too many times in a single day.
Even managing five artists wasn't as mentally draining as dealing with the Fourth Young Master and President Xia.
These two were the very embodiment of little demons.
Secretary Su gave him a meaningful look, his gaze following Xia Qinghe as he went after Lin Fengmian. "Someone doesn't want Fourth Young Master Lin to give him up. Until death, he'll always be his Abeibei."
Lin Sui: "..."
Was President Xia the one who didn't want the Fourth Young Master to give him up?
Why?
