Lei Jun Helps Others
Lei Jun and Shangguan Hong leaped out of the Middle Immortal Pool at the same time.
Both of them looked up.
Above their heads, in the direction of the Upper Immortal Pool, clouds churned and roiled, forming a disturbance more violent than before.
Shangguan Hong looked around. "Senior Brother Li Ming is nowhere to be seen. He should have gone up to take a look, right?"
Lei Jun nodded.
He had only witnessed Chen Yi retreat from the sea of clouds at the very top, knowing nothing of where the other man had gone after leaving it.
Perhaps Chen Yi had ultimately fallen into Li Ming's little trap and gone to the Upper Immortal Pool.
But perhaps it was not that simple.
Lei Jun also suspected that Chen Yi possessed some other mystery, allowing him to sense treasures or opportunities near him.
That was precisely why Li Ming had gone to the Lower Immortal Pool half-believing, half-doubting.
Lei Jun recalled his Sign Fortune. Aside from the Sixth Grade Opportunity, the Mist-Wreathed Cloud Crystal, in the sea of clouds at the very top, there was indeed an opportunity in both the Upper Immortal Pool and the Lower Immortal Pool.
Combined with Li Ming's little deception, perhaps Chen Yi had gone to the Upper Immortal Pool because of it.
This, in turn, corroborated Lei Jun's earlier speculation that Chen Yi had another secret about him.
Only, aside from minor opportunities, both the Upper Immortal Pool and Lower Immortal Pool also held great calamities...
At the crossroads of fate, Lei Jun had generally adhered to the principle of letting go of the urge to help others and respecting personal destiny when faced with people who made choices different from his own.
Senior Brother Li Ming was rather special, so Lei Jun made an exception. He took the initiative to do a good deed and sent him an Eighth Grade Opportunity.
Whether Senior Brother Li could receive it depended on his own luck.
Lei Jun remained calm.
Whether things went up or down now, he only needed to watch with peace of mind.
The clouds around the Upper Immortal Pool overhead surged ever more violently.
After a moment, a flash of apricot yellow cloth suddenly streaked through the sky.
A Young Daoist fell from midair.
Only then did Lei Jun go forward with Shangguan Hong to meet him.
"Junior Brother Chen?!" Shangguan Hong exclaimed in surprise.
The youth before them was indeed Chen Yi. However, his Apricot Yellow Taoist Robe was now tattered beyond recognition, while he himself looked like a cooked prawn. Every patch of exposed skin was fiery red, and his body was scorching hot.
Chen Yi no longer screamed. His face was twisted into a knot as he clenched his teeth and endured the pain, though sounds of sharp inhalation still occasionally escaped through his teeth.
Lei Jun and Shangguan Hong supported him to sit by the shore of a small lake in the Middle Immortal Pool.
Once Chen Yi saw their faces clearly, he gave a slight nod in thanks. Then he closed his eyes and began Sitting Cross-Legged in Meditation, focusing wholly on regulating the Magic Power and spiritual energy within his body.
Seeing his entire body taut and his teeth clenched tight, Shangguan Hong took out some healing pills, but it was not convenient for him to help Chen Yi take them.
After a while, figures began approaching one after another, drawn by the earlier commotion.
"What happened?"
When Fang Jian, the Celestial Master's fourth direct disciple, arrived and saw the scene, he frowned slightly.
Li Ying and Guo Yan also arrived in succession.
After a period of concentrated breathing regulation, the crimson color on Chen Yi's body gradually faded. He no longer steamed all over like a boiler.
He opened his eyes and first swept his gaze over everyone. Only then did he let out a long breath, take out another pill and swallow it. He was drenched in sweat, as though he had been fished out of water.
Fang Jian looked upward before asking, "Junior Brother Chen, did you go to the Upper Immortal Pool?"
After a moment of silence, Chen Yi nodded.
"Young people are curious by nature, and that is understandable. But Junior Brother Li already said that the Upper Immortal Pool was dangerous. Why did you have to go?" Fang Jian sighed.
Chen Yi remained silent.
Fang Jian's expression suddenly shifted slightly as he looked around.
Li Ying asked curiously, "My Second Brother... no, Senior Brother Li? Junior Brother Chen, have you not seen him at all?"
The group looked at one another. No one had seen Li Ming for some time.
Fang Jian frowned. "Though the Cloud Sea Immortal Pool is ever-changing, Junior Brother Li has the cultivation of the Third Layer Altar Realm, and he may even have Spirit Talismans bestowed by Martial Uncle Ziyang for protection..."
Before he could finish, his body suddenly swayed.
It was not just Fang Jian. Everyone beside the Middle Immortal Pool lost their footing.
The entire Minor Cave Heaven seemed to be shaking.
The source of the upheaval was not the Upper Immortal Pool above, where a disturbance had just occurred, but below.
Beneath their feet, in the direction of the Lower Immortal Pool, an even greater change seemed to be taking place.
Lei Jun descended with everyone else.
From afar, they saw that the boundless clouds which had originally surrounded the Lower Immortal Pool had all dispersed.
The surfaces of the several great lakes comprising the Lower Immortal Pool were all churning. Lake water surged upward against the heavens and gathered in midair, seeming to form a gigantic suspended vortex that constantly rotated and roiled.
"Heat Sea Groundswell?!" Fang Jian's expression changed.
The disturbance in the Lower Immortal Pool began affecting the entire Minor Cave Heaven.
At that moment, the Minor Cave Heaven was suddenly forcibly breached from the outside.
Three Daoists wearing Deep Red Taoist Robes rushed into the Minor Cave Heaven and were equally startled by the sight.
Fortunately, though startled, they did not panic. They immediately joined forces, unfurling gigantic Spirit Talismans the size of city gates one after another, working together to suppress the lake water surging backward from the Lower Immortal Pool.
The chaos within the Minor Cave Heaven finally gradually subsided.
Everyone sighed in relief, then went forward to pay their respects.
"Master!"
"Big Brother!"
"Senior Sister Jingzhen!"
"Third Senior Sister."
Hearing the people around him all speak at once, Lei Jun felt a little moved for a moment.
The three who had entered the Minor Cave Heaven to quell the chaos and render aid all wore the Deep Red Taoist Robes of Talisman Conferral Daoists.
The middle-aged Daoist nun whom Guo Yan called Master was Elder Hu, Guo Yan's mentor.
The Young Adult Daoist whom Li Ying called Big Brother appeared to be around thirty. He was Li Xuan, Elder Ziyang's eldest son and the full elder brother of Li Ming and Li Ying.
The remaining person was a Daoist nun who appeared to be in her twenties or thirties, with a lofty and pure temperament.
Shangguan Hong called her "Senior Sister Jingzhen," while Fang Jian called her "Third Senior Sister."
Like Fang Jian, this Zhang Jingzhen was a direct disciple of the Contemporary Celestial Master.
"Though the Cloud Sea Immortal Pool is ever-changing, how could such a great disturbance suddenly occur?" Elder Hu frowned deeply.
Zhang Jingzhen's gaze swept across Lei Jun, Fang Jian, and the others. "Where is Junior Brother Li Ming?"
Li Ying's face turned pale. "After the incident, Second Brother should have been searching for us, right? It is just that we gathered together, while he was searching elsewhere..."
Everyone scanned their surroundings.
Because of the earlier great upheaval, more than half the white clouds within the Minor Cave Heaven had dispersed, making the view far broader now.
But no matter where they looked, Li Ming was nowhere to be seen.
Their gazes hesitated, yet all converged on the Lower Immortal Pool without prior agreement.
Li Xuan, the eldest of the three Li siblings, wore an ugly expression as he descended toward the Lower Immortal Pool.
Without a word, Elder Hu followed him. Zhang Jingzhen remained where she was, watching over the Transmission Disciples to prevent another unexpected change.
As Li Xuan and Elder Hu approached, the calm surface of the Lower Immortal Pool parted of its own accord.
Not long afterward, Elder Hu surfaced first.
Someone surfaced with her.
More accurately, a corpse.
If Chen Yi had previously looked like a prawn nearly boiled alive, then Li Ming had not merely been boiled alive—his shell had been peeled away as well.
Li Ying's body swayed in midair, and she nearly fell straight down.
Her Big Brother Li Xuan emerged from the water in another direction. At the sight, he held his breath, his eyes splitting with rage.
The Young Adult Daoist came to Elder Hu and Li Ming's corpse, took a deep breath, and spoke in a low voice:
"The Cloud Sea Immortal Pool suddenly underwent a strange change. Li Ming tried his utmost to calm the Lower Immortal Pool's disturbance in order to protect his Fellow Disciples, but unfortunately..."
Lei Jun glanced at Li Ming's corpse.
He saw that some fiery red crystal sand clung to the body.
Elder Hu also frowned and found two Spirit Talismans on Li Ming.
Lei Jun found these talismans familiar.
Like the Spirit Talismans he had previously used to store the Mist-Wreathed Cloud Crystal, they were both Spirit Gathering Talismans.
Both of Li Ming's Spirit Gathering Talismans were stained red. Clearly, they had been used to store the treasure within the Lower Immortal Pool: Heat Crystal Sand.
So this was the opportunity in the Lower Immortal Pool... Lei Jun thought calmly.
The scene suddenly fell silent.
Everyone looked at one another.
Soundless questions and discussions seemed to hang in the air.
Li Ying looked at her Second Brother, then raised her head to look at her Big Brother.
Li Xuan had been forced to stop halfway through his words, like someone who had been slapped across the face in the middle of speaking.
Elder Hu's face was expressionless. "Did he go down to rescue people from danger, or did he go down to seek treasure?"
