After leaving the rooftop, Ken Kaneki suddenly felt the terminal in his pocket vibrate.
He took it out and checked it. It was a message from Hiyori saying that Class C's meeting had ended and she was coming over to keep him company.
Ken Kaneki tapped a few keys and sent her an address, arranging a place to meet.
Once he saw Hiyori's reply, he strolled over at his leisure, ready to wait for her arrival.
Before long, a lovely figure dressed in pure white appeared around the corner of the corridor.
Hiyori jogged over, her chest still rising and falling slightly when she stopped beside Ken Kaneki.
She panted softly, a faint blush coloring her fair cheeks. It was clear she had rushed over.
"Why were you in such a hurry? Look how tired you've made yourself."
A trace of tender concern flashed through Ken Kaneki's eyes as he looked at her, and he reached over to smooth the slightly rumpled folds of her clothes.
"Of course I couldn't keep my man waiting." Hiyori lifted her chin and gave Ken Kaneki a sweet smile.
She shook her head gently to show that she was fine. The playful sweetness in her voice was enough to leave anyone's throat dry and make them want to get closer.
"You and that sweet talk." Ken Kaneki couldn't help chuckling, his eyes full of affection.
He reached out to ruffle her long, silky silver hair, then gave her little face a thorough round of pinching and squishing.
Ken Kaneki glanced at the sky outside, then picked up his phone to check the time.
He naturally took Hiyori's soft little hand and led her toward the Student Cafeteria.
"Come on, let's eat first. I'll take you along to get something done while we're at it."
Hiyori blinked in puzzlement, unsure what her boyfriend was up to.
Still, she was always well-behaved and didn't ask any more questions, simply keeping close beside Ken Kaneki.
The two arrived at the Student Cafeteria. After a brief look around, Ken Kaneki quickly fixed his gaze on a target sitting in a corner.
It was a somewhat down-and-out-looking second-year boy, staring blankly at a dry, unappetizing free Mountain Vegetable Set Meal.
Ken Kaneki had his reasons for choosing him. He had observed this boy for days and knew he had few points left.
Ken Kaneki asked Hiyori to stay there and keep an eye on the older student so he wouldn't leave.
He himself turned toward the slightly more expensive ordering area and promptly paid with his points for a costly Deluxe Tempura Set Meal.
Then, carrying the tantalizingly fragrant meal, he picked up a clean pair of chopsticks and a cup of cola and headed straight over to the older student with Hiyori.
Under the second-year's somewhat startled gaze, Ken Kaneki and Hiyori sat down quite naturally in the empty seats across from him.
The older student looked around in confusion. There were clearly plenty of empty seats nearby, and he had no idea why these two first-years insisted on crowding into his table.
Ken Kaneki wasted no words. He pushed the Deluxe Tempura Set Meal in front of the older student and smiled gently.
"You must be starving. Eating that free Mountain Vegetable Set Meal every day isn't very good for your health. Here, eat this. Get some nourishment."
Although the Micro Bank founded by Ken Kaneki and the other two had indeed helped many students out of urgent difficulties, it still had a borrowing limit, and the interest wasn't low.
Many students who had already spent all their points continued to scrimp even after borrowing more. Unless they had absolutely no choice, they would never casually buy such expensive food, and their lives were painfully tight.
Looking at the golden tempura before him and breathing in its mouthwatering aroma, the older student couldn't help swallowing hard.
This meal cost well over a thousand points. In the past, he had only splurged on one when he occasionally rewarded himself.
He stared fixedly at the food, forcing down the urge to dig in immediately, and asked warily, "What's this supposed to mean?"
Ken Kaneki leaned back in his chair and slowly said two words.
"Midterm exams."
The older student's eyes lit up at those words, and he immediately understood Ken Kaneki's intention.
Since they were here to make a deal, there was no reason for him to stand on ceremony.
He grabbed the chopsticks, pulled the tray directly in front of himself, and began wolfing down the food.
Hiyori sat beside them in complete bewilderment, her beautiful eyes moving back and forth between Ken Kaneki and the older student. She had no idea what the two were talking about in riddles.
Once the older student had polished off every last bit of the deluxe meal, Ken Kaneki handed him a tissue at just the right moment and smiled.
"How much do you sell them for?"
The older student wiped his mouth. Hearing that question, he immediately realized that this first-year knew the ropes and had probably already asked someone else about the going rate.
He cautiously held up five fingers and gestured slightly, indicating that it would cost five thousand points.
Ken Kaneki gave a slight nod.
He knew that five thousand points for a copy of the midterm exam answers was indeed quite a bargain, so he agreed without the slightest hesitation.
Seeing Ken Kaneki agree so readily, the older student immediately beamed.
He hurried to his feet and said ingratiatingly to Ken Kaneki, "Wait here a moment. I'll go get what you want."
With that, he dashed out of the cafeteria.
After the older student left, Hiyori finally couldn't contain her curiosity. She tugged gently on Ken Kaneki's sleeve and asked with a little pout, her voice coaxing, "Ken, what exactly were you two talking about?"
Ken Kaneki chuckled, leaned close to her ear, and explained in a low voice.
"Actually, the questions on this school's midterm exams are almost exactly the same every year.
"Upper-year students often keep the actual papers and answers from previous years. I was just buying those from him with points."
Hiyori froze for a moment at his explanation, then connected all the clues in her mind and nodded in realization.
"So that's why..." She was exceptionally bright and naturally understood that Ken Kaneki was doing this to make sure Class D's struggling students wouldn't be expelled.
"By the way, how much of those five hundred thousand points I transferred to you have you spent? Do you still have enough?"
Hearing this, Hiyori rolled her eyes at him and chided him playfully.
"I still have well over half left. How could I possibly spend that many points in such a short time? I'm not the sort of woman who throws money around."
Thinking back on it, Hiyori couldn't help feeling a surge of sweetness.
Not long after they became a couple, Ken Kaneki had transferred a full five hundred thousand points into her account without allowing any argument.
At the time, Hiyori had looked at that astronomical balance and adamantly refused to accept it.
In the end, Ken Kaneki had subjected her to a thorough, deeply penetrating round of "rod discipline" in bed, wearing her out until she repeatedly begged for mercy. She could only blush and obediently accept it.
Still, Hiyori had long since made up her mind that she would never spend those points recklessly. She was merely keeping them safe for Ken Kaneki, and when he needed them in the future, she would return every last point.
Naturally, Ken Kaneki saw right through Hiyori's intentions, leaving him both tenderly concerned and touched.
Looking at the girl before him, whose heart and eyes were filled with nothing but him, Ken Kaneki's gaze grew even gentler. A girl as wonderful as Hiyori was impossible to find, even if one searched with a lantern.
He had heard that his world had already entered an age where bride prices reigned supreme. As the verse went, "The three rites and six betrothal gifts remain, yet the old chastity mark is nowhere to be seen." It was truly lamentable.
Having a girl like Hiyori at this school was indeed a fortunate thing.
With a wife like this, what more could a husband ask for!!!
