With a chugging roar, the diesel generator successfully started up, bringing light back to the cabin in the woods and drawing cheers from everyone.
"Is there anything you can't do?" Kurt clapped Nick hard on the shoulder, completely missing his slightly tense expression.
Nick was no expert on electrical circuits, but before heading to the Canyon on his mission, he had undergone a period of systematic training, even dismantling and reassembling an old diesel generator himself.
So, while helping start the generator behind the cabin, he took the opportunity to inspect the wiring in the distribution box. As expected, he found a fairly complicated set of backup circuits.
These backup circuits were connected to several main cables extending up from underground. They appeared to carry both power and low-voltage signals, running alongside the regular power lines into the various rooms.
The cabin in the woods before him only looked old on the outside. Inside, there was much more to it.
"Everyone, go change into your swimsuits! Meet back here in ten minutes." Jules cheered and dashed toward the master bedroom, which she was sharing with Kurt.
Everyone else had their own rooms too. Although this vacation cabin in the woods had only one floor, it actually covered a considerable area and had plenty of rooms. Judging by the layout, many of them had originally served purposes other than bedrooms, but had later been converted into guest rooms of various sizes.
Nick kept his phone camera on as he walked, pretending to shoot a video while deliberately aiming into dark corners. As expected, he found several suspicious bright spots. But the moment he entered his assigned guest room, he felt an urge to leave immediately.
The hidden cameras tucked into every corner of the guest room, high and low and on
