No one knew how Japan's Oni came to be, but they were more or less likely derived from certain monsters passed down from Shenzhou, combined with Japan's local elements and reimagined.
In Japan, oni and the Oni were not the same. Oni referred to all yokai, while the Oni were one particular kind of Japanese yokai.
They were generally a rank above most yokai.
The Oni excelled in brute strength. In terms of raw power alone, few yokai could contend with them, much less humans. And those among the Oni known as Oni Kings were even more unimaginably terrifying.
Among them, Shuten Doji, Shuten Doji, and Hoshikuma Doji, the three great Oni Kings, were especially renowned. Each Oni King had left an important mark on Japan's history and mythology.
And now, the Great Yokai Blood Prison Child, whom dark Miko had summoned through evil arts at the cost of her lifespan in order to take revenge... Though he was not as famous as those celebrated Oni Kings, he was not far beneath them.
Of course, summoning and controlling such a terrifying Great Yokai, even at such a tremendous price, was not permanent. It was a one-time summoning.
It was equivalent to a single hiring.
As long as Blood Prison Child completed Tsubaki's task, his contract with Tsubaki would be fulfilled, and they would have nothing to do with each other afterward.
Faced with Tsubaki's command, Blood Prison Child was deeply displeased and enraged. He had previously ruled supreme in hell, controlling more than half of an Oni tribe, and had even been planning to colonize the Human World. Yet who would have thought that he would suddenly be summoned, forcibly made to sign a contract, and, because of that contract, left with no choice but to deal with the enemies
