She first looked around the shop. Elements from all kinds of anime came rushing at her. In one corner stood a large glass display case filled with figurines of anime characters Rita had never seen before. On the other side, a bookcase was packed with light novels, decorated with fluffy dolls that made it look especially cute and warm. A television on top of the bookcase played recordings of performances the maids had put on in the past.
It was noon, and the sunlight outside was bright. The maid café had not turned on its lights, but the photographs of different maids and customers hanging on the walls made the place feel very cozy.
This maid café was actually rather out of the way, nothing like the shops beside Akihabara's main streets. It was tucked inside a small alley and was not very spacious, yet when Rita and Shiina Mashiro entered, they found it already full of customers. This shop was probably quite famous in Akihabara as well. Of course, nearly all the customers were men. Only four or five girls were eating in one corner, and judging by the way they kept looking around, they seemed more like foreign tourists here to experience maid culture.
Once Rita and Shiina Mashiro entered, many customers could not help looking at them several more times, their expressions showing varying degrees of surprise and astonishment.
