"Who?"
Hashiko Yui suddenly sat up and looked at the person beside her. A beautiful young woman with short ash-gold hair, wine-red eyes, dressed in a black-stockinged maid outfit and wearing a soft maid cap, stood by her side holding a tray.
The young woman's bangs covered her left eye, leaving only her wine-red right eye exposed. Beneath the outer corner of that eye was a beautiful tear mole.
On the tray she held was a steaming teapot, along with two cups.
"Who are you? How did you get in?"
Although she felt slightly relieved to discover that the intruder was a young woman rather than a man—at least she was not here to violate her—she had clearly locked the door when she left and before entering the room.
How had she gotten in?
Could she be... a ghost?
But Hashiko Yui glanced at the shadow beside the young woman. She had a shadow... so she was not a ghost.
"Me? You could say I'm an uninvited guest... As for how I got in, of course I just walked in!"
"Walked in? But I locked the door. And... what do you want by breaking into my home? If you're here for money, you should pick another place. I only have five thousand yen on me right now, and I still owe the bank over twenty million yen."
Hashiko Yui realized she was braver than she had imagined. At a time like this, she had not panicked and run away or screamed for help. Instead, she was speaking to the other woman so calmly.
Still, as she spoke, Hashiko Yui unconsciously shifted backward.
