The red glare of cannon fire repeatedly lit up the deep, dark harbor, and shrill alarms all but tore the night sky apart.
The wreckage of the coastal batteries still belched thick black smoke. Some Sea God Legion soldiers, only just jolted awake, hastily donned their gear. Soul Tool Guns and Soul Cannons swung their muzzles around to fire on the Southern Legion descending from the sky.
Dense beams of soul-powered light pierced the darkness like countless long silver needles, sweeping toward the angelic soldiers diving down.
"Hold formation! Form a defensive array!" a Sea God Legion field officer roared, desperately trying to rally the scattered soldiers. But before his words had faded, a shadow silently appeared behind him.
Dark Phoenix black mist coiled around Leng Yulai, her figure flickering between substance and illusion, almost merging with the night. Deep violet phoenix flames silently wound around the officer's body.
Those flames were not as dazzling as Leng Yaozhu's bright fire, but they could burn inward along the Soul Power meridians. After a short cry of pain, the officer toppled straight down, his commands abruptly cut off.
Leng Yulai raised her eyes toward the main command ship deep in the harbor, a cold curve lifting the corner of her mouth. Her figure vanished into the smoke and darkness once more.
She singled out commanders who were relaying orders and rallying troops. She continually shattered the Sea God Legion's entire chain of command, leaving units everywhere to fight on their own, unable to support one another.
On the other side, towering flames continued to rage.
The phantom of the Heavenly Fire Phoenix behind Leng Yaozhu spread its wings. Surging waves of crimson fire swept across a stretch of docks, the flames scorching wooden piers and soul-tool supplies stacked in the open. The blaze stained half the sea red.
Her fiery-red Battle Armor darted and wheeled through the cannon fire as she singled out the remaining operational coastal guns for bombardment. Every time the phoenix's true fire fell, another battery became a burning heap of scrap metal. Several powerful Soul Masters from the Sea God Legion noticed the threat here and joined forces to surround Leng Yaozhu.
"Just in time." Leng Yaozhu's phoenix eyes sharpened. A phoenix's long cry rang through the night sky, and searing feathers of fire shot in every direction like arrows, meeting the Sea God Soul Masters head-on. Fierce collisions of Soul Power burst into dazzling flares.
High above, Qiangu Qingfeng, commander of the entire night raid, stood motionless amid the clouds, calmly surveying the whole chaotic naval harbor below.
Signals condensed from Soul Power flashed from his hands again and again. Like sharp blades, the Southern Legion's formations kept cutting inward through the breaches opened earlier, dividing the hastily resisting Sea God Legion into small pockets and suppressing them one by one.
The angelic soldiers advanced in good order, the rush of their beating wings unceasing in the night.
Inside the command tower, the surviving senior officers kept roaring out orders, but fewer than one in ten messages made it through. On every front, the situation was in ruins.
The large antiaircraft Soul Cannon atop the tower had just swung its muzzle toward Qiangu Qingfeng above the clouds when a dark-gold staff shadow came hurtling through the air from afar and crashed into the turret. With a thunderous boom, the massive turret split apart and collapsed.
Qiangu Qingfeng glanced indifferently at the collapsing tower and murmured, "Chen Xinjie is dead, and the Sea God Legion is a host of dragons without a head. Today is the day the Sea God Legion falls."
"Surrender and you will be spared!"
Smoke filled the air, ice sealed the sea, and raging fire consumed the harbor.
The Sea God Legion's base, which had once awed the four seas, was sinking into the abyss step by step on this dark night.
The surviving soldiers all laid down their weapons and surrendered.
As the saying went-
Tattered banners drifted away upon the tide; in a single night, a mighty host became the fallen.
The Sea God Family.
The night was black as ink. Torrential rain battered the Sea God Family's seaside estate, and thunderclaps repeatedly tore through the lead-gray sky.
The once imposing, magnificent residence had become a purgatory on earth. Towering white-jade pillars were stained dark red, and stone balustrades carved with wave patterns had cracked and collapsed. Everywhere rang the sharp clash of weapons and desperate roars.
The sea-soul Soul Masters who had once guarded the family fell in swathes. Seawater surged through shattered window frames into the courtyards, while rain mingled with blood and wound through the grooves between the bluestone paving, flowing into the boundless sea outside.
Fires blazed throughout the main hall. Precious wave-patterned carpets had been slashed to shreds by sharp blades, and portraits of ancestors from generations past were burned.
None of the family's children, young or old, were spared.
Relying on their many years of cultivation, the elders fought desperately to the death. Soul Rings rose in layers, and waves swept in every direction with furious roars. But outnumbered, their bodies slammed heavily to the ground, one after another.
The Sea God Clan, once at the height of its glory, commanding the Sea God Legion and striking awe across the continent, collapsed like a great edifice in an instant.
The tattered banners beneath the covered walkways were ripped apart by fierce winds. Half a banner embroidered with the vast sea lay soaked in bloody rain. The anguished cries of boys and girls and the final furious shouts of their elders gradually faded into silence.
Smoke mingled with the briny smell of the sea throughout the estate. Across the vast residence, no living person answered. Only the surging waves remained, beating against the shore again and again, silently burying this family's glory.
Yue Zhengen's younger brother, the level-98 Angel Douluo Le Zheng Ci, gave an order with an indifferent gaze: "Spare anyone taller than a wagon wheel. Lay the wheel flat!"
"Men, women, old and young-leave no one alive!"
The sea breeze swept through the deathly still courtyards. Only broken walls and ruins remained, bearing witness to the destruction of a family.
