In a remote suburb somewhere in Washington, all was silent, as though no one lived there. Just then, a golden ring appeared out of thin air, and a man in monk's robes suddenly emerged. It was Mordo, who had hurried over in search.

"Is this the place? It doesn't look like anyone's here."

Mordo muttered doubtfully, but to be safe, he briefly tested the magical energy in the area. A trace of delight then appeared on his face. "There's a faint trace of magic. Magic has been used here. This must be the place!"

Mordo immediately began searching for traces of Kaecilius. Just then, a spark suddenly appeared before him, and its light slowly spread into a golden ring. A figure strolled out of it.

"It's you! Xia Zuo, boy, did the Sorcerer Supreme send you here?"

Once Mordo saw who had emerged from the ring, his expression immediately darkened, for it was Xia Zuo, the person he least wanted to see.

But Xia Zuo's presence here also suggested something. Had the Sorcerer Supreme already learned that Kaecilius had appeared here and sent Xia Zuo over?

Xia Zuo had defeated Kaecilius in their previous battle at Kamar-Taj's training grounds, so Mordo immediately assumed that the Sorcerer Supreme had sent him.

"Of course not. The Ancient One doesn't know. I came here to settle some scores." Xia Zuo looked at Mordo with a half-smile.

"In that case, stay out of my way. I'll be the one to capture Kaecilius!"

Mordo was in such a hurry to deal with Kaecilius that he never thought through what Xia Zuo meant. Assuming Xia Zuo had also come for Kaecilius, he strode toward a building on the other side.

"It seems you really can't understand plain speech. But that doesn't matter. You'll understand."

Xia Zuo watched Mordo's retreating figure with an odd expression. He hadn't expected Mordo to fail to understand after he had made himself so clear. But it didn't matter. Now that Mordo was here, nothing else mattered, because he had only one goal: to kill Mordo.

With that thought, a Vermilion Pentagram Magic Circle emblem appeared in Xia Zuo's eyes, and a Magic Sword rune rapidly gathered in his hand.

In an instant, a Magic Sword radiating golden light appeared beneath Xia Zuo's hand. The next moment, he launched it straight at Mordo!

"No! Shield!"

Before Xia Zuo had even finished forming his Magic Sword, Mordo had already sensed the fluctuations in his magical energy. His expression changed drastically, and he swiftly cast Shield Magic, forming a Magic Shield in front of himself.

At that moment, Xia Zuo's Magic Sword had already reached Mordo!

Boom!

With a tremendous blast, Xia Zuo's Magic Sword slammed into Mordo's Magic Shield. The Magic Sword exploded, instantly turning into an immense force that blasted Mordo away!

Mordo was, after all, a Sanctum Guardian Magic User who guarded a Sanctum. His power was naturally beyond that of the magic users studying at Kamar-Taj, so this blow could not incapacitate him outright. But he hadn't come through unscathed either: a trickle of blood seeped from the corner of his mouth!

"You set this trap?!"

Mordo's face was grim as he stared fixedly at Xia Zuo, raising a hand to wipe the blood from his mouth.

If he had still believed a moment ago that Kaecilius had appeared here, he now understood that this was a trap Xia Zuo had set. What he couldn't quite understand was why Xia Zuo had been able to set such a precise trap for him!

Had Kaecilius already fallen into Xia Zuo's hands?!

At that thought, Mordo's gaze changed, filling with murderous intent.

"You have Kaecilius?" Mordo asked coldly, staring fixedly at Xia Zuo. He had now figured everything out!

"Looks like you're not that stupid after all. Just as you suspect, Kaecilius is indeed in my hands. And..." Xia Zuo looked at Mordo with a half-smile and slowly spoke.

"And I even know that you goaded him into wreaking havoc in the library!"

The instant Xia Zuo said this, Mordo lashed a Light Whip from his hand straight at him!

When he had guessed the truth a moment earlier, Mordo had already begun thinking of silencing him. As long as he killed Xia Zuo, he still had a chance. Otherwise, once the Sorcerer Supreme learned of this, he would truly have no way out.

Unfortunately, Xia Zuo had already seen through Mordo's intentions completely. So when Mordo struck with his Magic Whip, Xia Zuo easily dodged it without being hit.

"Mordo, I know you ordered Kaecilius to wreak havoc in the library and even kill the Librarian. So now you're planning to silence me?"

Xia Zuo stared coldly at Mordo, repeatedly evading his attacks without showing the slightest intention of attacking.

"Mordo, you have nowhere to run. What else can you do?!" Xia Zuo kept speaking to Mordo.

"Once I kill you, it'll all be over!!" Mordo said coldly. As long as he dealt with Xia Zuo, everything would be over!

"So you've admitted it yourself!"

When Xia Zuo heard Mordo's words, rather than becoming angry, a faint smile appeared on his face.

Xia Zuo stopped in his tracks and shouted toward the open ground, "Ancient One, did you see that? Mordo has admitted it himself!"

Mordo's face instantly turned deathly pale. He stiffly turned his head toward the open ground, where a mirrorlike expanse of space slowly shattered. A bald woman in white monk's robes stepped out.
