Chapter 9: Meeting again
Sunlight filtered down through the ginkgo branches, spreading over the entire lawn. Beneath the bridge, schools of koi could be seen swimming in the pond, creating a colorful profusion around Su Can, in jeans and a white shirt, and Xiao Yunyun, in a cotton T-shirt and coffee-colored trousers.
The pond shimmered. Slightly misty shafts of light pierced the trees, casting overlapping patches of light and shadow through the surrounding space. They had a vivid sense of depth, washing Lin Garden in a scene of pale, grainy hues.
Xiao Yunyun lifted her head to look at Su Can, her bright eyes facing those misty particles of light. She blinked, then smiled. "Well, well, so you came looking for a pretty girl! I was wondering why you followed right on Tang Wu's heels after she transferred here."
Xiao Yunyun took a few steps forward and turned around, her pink T-shirt making a bright sweep. "Are you kidding? At No. 27 Middle School, and even at Yude Middle School and Rongda Affiliated Middle School, saying Tang Wu's a household name might be an exaggeration, but the people asking about her and discussing her in private could fill five train cars."
Su Can's heart gave an inexplicable leap. Even with the soul of his previous life within him, like a god descended to earth, he still found it hard to withstand the shock of that moment.
Seeing his mouth fall open in astonishment, Xiao Yunyun gave a derisive little laugh, looking as though she thought he was behind the times. "Don't you know Tang Wu's considered the prettiest school beauty at our No. 27 Middle School? Last semester, when three schools held a joint academic exchange, she was one of our school's representatives. Afterward, a classmate of mine at Yude
