Chapter 36: Leading the breakthrough
"Zhang Xian-it's actually Zhang Xian!" Several people nearby blurted out his name. He exerted considerable pressure on the boys, yet seemed very popular among the girls.
Zhang Xian squeezed his hand hard, and Su Can noticed a Band-Aid on the back of it.
A girl ran over and patted Zhang Xian on the shoulder, giggling. "Assistant Zhang, what brings you here?" Then she glanced at Su Can, looking him up and down. For whatever reason, she stopped looking at him altogether, chatted with Zhang Xian for a bit, and skipped away. The girls' attentiveness toward Zhang Xian contrasted sharply with the boys' aloofness, leaving Su Can puzzled.
Only then did Zhang Xian say to Su Can, "Are Wang Weiwei and those guys doing all right in Xiahai? He's my buddy. A little hard to get along with, though, huh?"
Although Su Can had already suspected it, only now did he confirm it. He nodded. "They're all doing well." What puzzled him was the girl calling Zhang Xian an "assistant."
"What about Lin Luoran? She's the basketball queen. Hasn't she shown her stuff at Xiahai No. 1 High School?"
"No, but she did blow up at me once," Su Can said with a smile, getting a clear sense of Zhang Xian's relationship with Wang Weiwei and the others. It also indirectly showed that Wang Weiwei was sincere with people, without all the scheming so common among those of his standing. Perhaps this was the biggest reason Su Can had been able to help his family.
