Chapter 91: The king's command
Three spotlights shone on Mark and Ginny onstage, and on Su Can below. Applause surrounded him. Many people smiled, and some even proudly told the people beside them, "He's in our Dungeons & Dragons Club!"
But Mark Zuckerberg raised a thumb to the corner of his mouth and made a shushing sound, signaling that he had something to say.
The host handed him the microphone, and Zack said, "No dance has ever elected two kings. Even here at Exeter Academy, we can't do that."
Everyone stopped applauding and looked at Zack, their voices gradually dying away.
Mark glanced at Ginny beside him. The girl gave him a strained smile. "By the same token, that wouldn't be very fair to our beautiful queen. So tonight's dance should have only one king!"
By the time he finished, the room had fallen completely silent.
Mark jumped down from the stage. The spotlights fell on him as he walked toward Su Can, his head covered in buttery-blond curls. White light followed him the whole way, dust swirling around him. It was like a ceremony.
Mark lifted the white hat from his head. Something on it glittered. Perhaps those were only cheap glass beads on a prop, but at that moment, whether they were glass or dazzling diamonds made no difference.
Holding the hat out level, Mark came up to Su Can. Then he ceremonially dropped to one knee and raised it in both hands. "There can be only one king. This honor should go to someone who deserves this hat more than I do. All I did was turn down Microsoft. To Microsoft, that only meant losing an employee. But Su brought us Facebook. He showed us that perhaps we don't have to approach all those functions and exercises
