Chapter 131: A situation
Wang Weiwei, Lin Zouwen, and Lin Luoran were all away from Rongcheng for the New Year. They said they had gone to their homes in Beijing and might return on the tenth day of the lunar year, or might not come back at all, going straight to university when the semester began instead. Before leaving, Lin Luoran had sent Su Can a text: "If I don't come back to Rongcheng, I'll see you in Shanghai, Su Can. Don't miss me."
Reading the message, Su Can thought Lin Luoran was as carefree as ever, though something about her seemed to have changed. He could not quite say what it was, and with so much going on lately, he did not dwell on it.
Still, the incident with Tao Chuhong had indeed brought Su Can some unexpected interludes. Chen Kefan and the others he had met on the mountain hike later got his number through his cousin Zeng Na and called to invite him out, saying a lot of people were getting together and wanted to meet him.
Su Can turned them down. Chen Kefan did not insist, though the disappointment was audible in his voice.
Unbeknownst to him, after hanging up, Chen Kefan was mocked by the people around him. Some questioned whether he really knew Su Can at all, while others thought his story was quite credible, but Su Can simply would not do him the favor of showing up. Fine, then. It was just as well he was not coming; they probably had little in common anyway. Others thought this Su Can was putting on rather too many airs. In short, Su Can was privately ridiculed for acting like a big shot.
Knowing nothing of this, Su Can continued living his life as he pleased.
