Chapter 175: I'm Going to Finish You (Part Two)
Su Can had reflected countless times on his former university life. Had attending a third-rate university made him reject it, turning bitterly self-destructive?
In fact, in Su Can's memories of his later life, he had been just as busy, but had never known what he was busy for. It was like walking aimlessly through an uninhabited stretch of the far northwest, surrounded by the same unchanging scenery, the blazing sun overhead, his GPS lost, with no idea where he was headed and still nothing on the distant horizon-a mountain that looked close enough to reach could run a horse to death. That endless trek, with no end in sight, was so desolate that even the wide-open view could drive a person mad, make them grieve, weep, and scream themselves hoarse.
Yet before all that affected sorrow, weeping, shouting, and breast-beating had ended, everything truly came to an abrupt halt.
At some point, classes had grown fewer and fewer. At some point, the buddies in his dorm who used to stay up gaming with him until two or three had begun earnestly preparing for their final exams, fretting like ants on a hot pan over their degree certificates. Even the usually feckless guys had started turning up at the university's various recruitment fairs looking respectable. The university, meanwhile, was eager to sell its students off in exchange for a decent employment rate. Everything proceeded in a whirlwind, yet followed an orderly routine, because it happened this way every year.
Those enviable couples who had walked shoulder to shoulder and hand in hand along Paulownia Road fulfilled the saying that graduation meant heartbreak for them all. Farewell dinners stretched from West Street to East Street, and at dawn everyone went their separate ways.
