Chapter 44: A counterattack
Smoke billowed like a sea, adding to the heat. Lamb sizzled on the barbecue grills, the aroma of fried egg pancakes filled the air, and the constant clatter of ladles against the restaurants' large woks whetted everyone's appetite.
Nanjing University's snack street was famous in the area. Even students from neighboring universities made special trips there for a better meal. With food lovers coming from all over, the street was packed, and attractive female students often appeared there too, another indirect reason for its popularity.
Su Can was treating everyone, with no limit on numbers, and plenty of people felt no need to stand on ceremony. Those close to him, such as Zhang Xiaoqiao, Li Han, Xiao Xu, Wang Dongjian, and everyone in Tang Wu's dorm, knew he was an entrepreneur. Besides, Su Can was usually easygoing about such things. Last semester, determined to fulfill his responsibilities, he had even held a class meeting in a five-star hotel's banquet hall, a story that had become quite a talking point. So some of those present who knew him a little better had brought their own friends along without hesitation.
Many of those present did not know one another well, though some had met before and knew of each other, and a few could even name the other person's class and department. They soon became acquainted in little groups, passing drinks around and chatting about everything under the sun, making the atmosphere considerably livelier.
The approaching summer vacation had everyone eager to go home, though now and then they sighed over how quickly the academic year was ending.
