Chapter 21: A powerful group
They left the school, followed the slope leading to the main road outside, and reached the road. Tang Wu looked at Su Can. "What biology material did you want to photocopy?"
"Oh, page five of the practice questions they handed out for biology a little while ago. I accidentally lost it." Su Can smiled faintly. Her questioning tone sounded a little icy, and he instinctively felt that her words were also a hint for him to leave.
Su Can's heart sank. He knew that although Tang Wu looked calm, she had more or less guessed why he had done what he had today. Tang Wu might be aloof, outwardly proud and unapproachable, seemingly unwilling to concern herself with anything, but he believed that nothing happening at City First Middle School escaped those eyes of hers, which seemed perpetually covered in ice.
Word had already spread through their class that he had failed in his pursuit of Chen Lingshan. Now he had taken the initiative to invite Tang Wu out, while looking as though he was deliberately challenging Yue Zijiang, with something of a petty rivalry about it. How would she see him? Would she find him objectionable?
With a girl like Tang Wu, once she decided she disliked someone, he feared that nothing he did in the future would ever win her favor.
Unfortunately, he could not explain all of this to her completely. The frustration weighing on Su Can could not have been greater.
"Page five of biology?" Tang Wu frowned. After a long moment, she said, "The biology practice questions don't have a page five."
A long silence followed.
Regret welled up in Su Can. He had even bungled a simple lie. He knew that the future he foresaw had recently thrown him
