Chapter 156: A couple
When they had nothing to do, Su Can and Li Pengyu liked walking past the Municipal Government guesthouse to the Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government Family Compound. This was probably the route they knew best in Huangcheng. Perhaps because of its privileged surroundings and status, the compound remained peaceful and breezy despite being in the city center.
With rows of European-style houses inside, it looked quite impressive. Local Huangcheng taxi drivers taking out-of-town passengers past the entrance invariably offered somewhat hazy boasts about the compound's pleasant living environment. Lin Zouwen called again, saying that since they were in Huangcheng, a few friends happened to be nearby and knew the city well, so they should get in touch and meet. Su Can had not wanted to make things so complicated, but when Lin Zouwen said they were trustworthy friends worth knowing, he agreed. Mainly, he was worried Lin Zouwen might already have promised them something; he could hardly refuse on his end.
Outside the residence assigned to Su Licheng in the compound, they could see through the windows that the renovation crew was working overtime. Su Can sat down on a chair and said to Li Pengyu, "We need to push ahead with the acquisition of Blizzard Entertainment's new game. The twenty-five million dollars is all in place. Do you think Blizzard Vice President Bill Roper, who's been driven to his wits' end by Vivendi's executives, will see us as his destined saviors because of this timely twenty-five million?"
Li Pengyu thought for a moment, then smiled. "That big turnip must be running around in circles. If he wants to preserve his project's development, he'll probably have to give Vivendi's executives something more convincing. That twenty-five million dollars should give him some backing."
