Background / History

Madara and Hashirama Senju knew each other from childhood despite the centuries-long conflict between their clans. They shared a dream of establishing a village where children would no longer have to fight in wars 1.

Their reconciliation depended on the death of Madara’s younger brother, Izuna, whom Tobirama Senju had killed. Madara demanded that Hashirama either kill Tobirama or take his own life. When Hashirama actually turned a kunai on himself, Madara stopped him. The Senju and Uchiha subsequently joined forces to establish Konoha 1.

Appearance

  • Hair: Long, unruly black hair hanging behind his shoulders 12.
  • Clothing: A black, high-collared robe bearing the Uchiha Clan’s red-and-white fan crest on its back 12.
  • Weapon: Carries the Great Gunbai diagonally across his back 12.
  • Eyes: Normally black; become blood-red with three tomoe when he activates his Sharingan 13.
  • Build: Considerably taller than the teenage Shinichi, whom he looks down at when they meet at the Uchiha compound 28.

Personality

Madara is proud, confrontational, and quick to interpret rejection as humiliation. He initially dismisses the Byakugan as inferior to the Sharingan and calls the Hyuga “ants.” When they reverse their agreement to join Konoha, he regards it as a personal insult to himself and Hashirama, eventually attacking their compound despite Hashirama’s objections 6 8 12 13.

Strength can overturn his contempt. After Shinichi cracks his Susanoo, Madara asks his name and openly acknowledges him. Their unfinished battle becomes something he eagerly wants to resume; during their later spar, he finds facing a capable opponent exhilarating rather than frustrating 14 28 30.

He also values straightforward dealings and reciprocates support. Shinichi’s generous payment persuades him to accept the Hyuga’s friendship, and he later insists on attending their distributors’ conference in person. His hostility toward Tobirama remains pronounced: he repeatedly condemns Tobirama’s scheming and complains that the Uchiha face obstruction within Konoha 28 30 38.

Abilities & Skills

Sharingan and Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan

  • Tracks Shinichi’s movements closely enough to evade successive Gentle Fist strikes aimed at vital chakra points 29.
  • Perceives Shinichi’s sudden increase in chakra after he enters Tenseigan Chakra Mode 14.
  • Reads the path of Shinichi’s Silver Light Blade and moves aside as it splits Susanoo, escaping with only his robe cut 15.
  • Uses his Mangekyō and Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan while manifesting increasingly powerful Susanoo forms 13 14 16.

Susanoo

  • Creates a blue-violet chakra giant that protects Madara and attacks with enormous limbs and blades 13 29.
  • Its layered defenses initially resist Shinichi’s attractive and repulsive forces, though those forces can deflect its attacks 14.
  • Its grounded half-bodied form prevents Shinichi’s Attraction from pulling Madara any farther 29.
  • Defensive limits: Shinichi cracks its chest with a chakra-enhanced palm strike, then splits its third-stage armor with Silver Wheel Reincarnation Explosion 14 15.
  • Perfect form’s demonstrated limit: Hashirama’s Deep Forest Emergence binds its legs, armor, and sword arm, stopping its descending blade 16.
  • During their second fight, Madara concludes that defeating Shinichi would require complete-body Susanoo, but ends the spar instead of using it 30.

Fire Release

  • Majestic Destroyer Flame: Exhales a vast sea of fire capable of engulfing the edge of the Hyuga compound 13.
  • Can increase the scale of successive attacks until flames spread across an entire wasteland 29.
  • Counters shown: Shinichi blocks the flames with Rotation or pushes them back with Repulsive Force 13 29.

Taijutsu and Weapon Combat

  • Defeats numerous Hyuga branch-family ninja with Gunbai sweeps, kicks, and close-range grappling 13.
  • Catches Eldest Uncle’s attacking wrist, disarms him, and lifts him by the throat before Shinichi intervenes 13.
  • Exchanges rapid punches and kicks with Shinichi in Tenseigan Chakra Mode; neither lands a clean strike during their later spar 29.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Great Gunbai — A massive war fan used for sweeping strikes and overhead blows. It sends several Hyuga defenders flying in a single attack 13.
  • Black Uchiha robe — Its hem is cut by Shinichi’s Silver Light Blade. The missing corner later helps Uchiha clansmen connect Madara’s return with reports that his Susanoo was split 15 17.

Relationships

  • Hashirama Senju — Childhood friend and fellow founder of Konoha. Hashirama repeatedly restrains Madara’s aggression toward the Hyuga; Madara resents his interference and considers him excessively softhearted 1 8 16.
  • Tobirama Senju — Hostile associate and the killer of Madara’s younger brother. Madara openly despises his methods, while Tobirama secretly allows the Hyuga attack to proceed in hopes that both sides will suffer losses 1 6 12 28.
  • Izuna Uchiha — Younger brother whose death initially stands in the way of reconciliation with the Senju 1.
  • Shinichi Hyuga — Initially an enemy targeted over the Hyuga’s refusal to join Konoha; later an acknowledged rival and business partner. Madara continues seeking rematches after accepting the Hyuga’s friendship 12 14 30 47.
  • Uchiha clansmen — Leads the clan and commands immediate deference. Some younger members argue that he, rather than a Senju, should hold the Hokage position; Madara hears their remarks but gives no stated response 17 28.
  • Shinichi’s Eldest Uncle — Nearly killed by Madara during the compound attack, but rescued by Shinichi immediately before the finishing blow 13.

Story Role / Major Arcs

The Hyuga Refuse Konoha

Madara initially refuses to accompany Hashirama to collect the Hyuga, judging them unworthy of another visit. When Hashirama returns with news that they intend to establish their own village, Madara threatens to wipe them out. Hashirama stops his immediate departure and insists that joining Konoha should be voluntary 6 7 8.

Still angered several days later, Madara leaves Konoha alone. Tobirama senses his departure but conceals it from Hashirama, hoping the confrontation will weaken both Madara and the Hyuga 12.

Attack on the Hyuga Compound

Madara opens his attack without warning, burning houses and overwhelming the defenders. Shinichi arrives in time to save Eldest Uncle and leads Madara onto nearby wasteland, away from the wounded clanspeople 13.

The battle escalates from weapon combat to Susanoo. Shinichi’s Tenseigan Chakra Mode allows him to crack the giant’s chest, earning Madara’s acknowledgment. Shinichi then splits the third-stage form with a silver blade, but Madara evades the slash and manifests Perfect Susanoo 14 15 16.

Hashirama arrives before the giant’s blade reaches Shinichi and restrains it with Wood Release. Madara eventually dismisses Susanoo, while Hashirama apologizes on Konoha’s behalf for the destruction and injuries. Madara leaves with a warning that Hashirama will not save Shinichi next time 16.

Hashirama subsequently spreads the story of Shinichi splitting Susanoo throughout Konoha. Madara broods over the interrupted fight as younger Uchiha begin questioning why their clan remains under a Senju Hokage 17.

Rematch and the Ninja-Tool Deal

After Tobirama refuses to sell Hyuga Village supplies, Shinichi approaches Madara directly. Madara makes a fight the condition for discussing business, then explicitly declares their rematch a spar 27 28 29.

Unable to hit Shinichi with taijutsu, Fire Release, or armored Susanoo, Madara stops rather than escalate to his complete-body form. Back at the compound, he accepts two hundred million ryo for ten thousand shuriken, five thousand kunai, and five thousand explosive tags. Shinichi offers the amount above the quoted market total as a gesture of friendship, which Madara accepts on behalf of the Uchiha 29 30.

Support for Hyuga Village’s Conference

Madara personally attends Hyuga Village’s distributors’ conference to support its new ninja-tool business. At the gates, he exchanges insults with Tobirama and objects when Hashirama agrees to Mū’s proposed alliance with Iwagakure 38 41.

During the conference, Madara remains silent when a young Uchiha asks whether their clan qualifies as a friend of the Hyuga. Shinichi confirms the friendship and grants the Uchiha first-tier distributor status without the five-million-ryo franchise fee 43 44.

Before departing, Madara tells Shinichi that their last fight was insufficient and promises not to hold back at their next opportunity. Shinichi accepts the challenge 47.
