"An Xiaoran, Healing, quick!" Seeing Luo Fan's blade pierce straight through his father's throat, Luo Xiaohai stared at An Xiaoran with eyes nearly bursting from their sockets and shouted.
But ever since Luo Fan and Luo Dahai had started fighting, An Xiaoran had done nothing more. She simply stood there quietly.
"Hurry, use Healing on my dad! Hurry up, or I'll kill you!" Luo Xiaohai raised his hand, holding a Missile ready to fire, and snarled at An Xiaoran.
This little girl with autism had been almost impossible to communicate with in the convoy. If her Healing and Shield hadn't been of some use, he would never have tolerated her.
But now that things had reached this point, if she still wouldn't obey, he wouldn't mind killing her.
Faced with Luo Xiaohai's threat and the Missile in his hand, An Xiaoran said nothing. She merely watched him quietly. There was not the slightest trace of fear of death on her calm face, and she still made no move.
"Damn it, I hate that look of yours more than anything!"
Her eyes watched him without a ripple, as though his threats were nothing but a joke to her. Luo Xiaohai couldn't help cursing.
He had tried plenty of methods before to make An Xiaoran obey him completely: beatings, confinement, even holding her head underwater.
And the result? She had faced every kind of torment calmly, as though none of it was enough to cause her pain. She could even face death with composure.
There was nothing he could do. Against someone who couldn't be swayed by torture and didn't even care whether she lived or died, Luo Xiaohai was utterly helpless. He could only keep her around.
After all, she only needed a little food, and she would still cast Healing and Shield whenever the mood struck her. She was of some use, at least.
Now, even when he threatened to kill her, she still watched him with that same look, and an inexplicable fury rose in Luo Xiaohai's heart.
"Since you really aren't afraid to die, then die!" With those words, Luo Xiaohai gritted his teeth and fired the Missile in his hand straight at An Xiaoran.
Yet An Xiaoran still acted as though she couldn't see the Missile hurtling toward her. She didn't even put up her Shield.
Boom!
The fist-sized Missile struck An Xiaoran, blasting her small body away and sending her tumbling to the ground.
His attack landed. Seeing her take his Missile without dodging or evading, Luo Xiaohai wasn't surprised. He raised his hand again, and another Missile appeared.
He wasn't sure whether he had killed her in a single hit, so he was preparing to finish her off with another.
Squelch!
Just as Luo Xiaohai was about to fire his second Missile, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his chest.
He looked down and saw an arrow piercing straight through his chest.
Not far away, Luo Fan drew the bow and nocked another arrow.
Whoosh!
Another arrow shot out, this one piercing straight through Luo Xiaohai's head.
Only then did Luo Fan lower the bow in his hands, completely reassured.
"Tsk, tsk, this really is a fine thing." Luo Fan looked down at the bow in his hands, unable to put it down.
The bow was about a meter and a half long and deathly white all over. What drew even more attention was the eye at each end of the bow. The two eyes could move, making it look extremely eerie and frightening.
But it was precisely those eyes that gave the bow its guaranteed-hit property.
Luo Fan had originally thought Luo Dahai was a sharpshooter because he genuinely had superb archery skills.
Now it seemed that it had mainly been the properties of this uncanny artifact bow.
The black bear-type Fierce Beast nearby truly lived up to being an Entered the Rank Fierce Beast. Though it had already fallen to the ground, it wasn't dead yet and was still struggling faintly.
Luo Fan ignored it and walked over to Luo Xiaohai, pulling the arrows out of his chest and head before going over to An Xiaoran.
"Ah..." Looking at An Xiaoran lying on the ground, Luo Fan sighed silently to himself.
Luo Fan had also noticed the little girl's autism. He could even have called it an extremely advanced case.
Her ability to cast Healing and Shield meant her Sequence was at least above Lv6.
Yet when faced with Luo Xiaohai's Missile, not only had she failed to put up a Shield, she hadn't even tried to dodge. She had simply faced her own death so calmly.
It was utterly astonishing.
"Well, perhaps it's for the best. In a world where people prey on one another like this, death might actually be a release." Looking at the little girl, who was seven or eight years old, Luo Fan sighed somewhat helplessly.
"Uh, well, sorry. You... you're not dead..." But as Luo Fan said this, he discovered that An Xiaoran had opened her eyes, which made things awkward.
Struggling to sit up, An Xiaoran looked at Luo Xiaohai's corpse on the ground, then turned to Luo Fan and spoke again in her slightly childish voice. "Thank you."
"You're welcome, you're welcome. I didn't kill him for your sake, though. He did try to kill me, after all." Hearing the little girl's thanks, Luo Fan waved a hand as he spoke.
As he spoke, Luo Fan turned around and gathered up the other arrows on the ground.
When Luo Dahai had shot at the black bear earlier, some of the arrows had been stopped by its shell and fallen to the ground.
An Xiaoran got to her feet and raised a hand to cast Healing on herself, healing forty to fifty percent of her injuries. Then she silently followed behind Luo Fan.
A little while later, the black bear also collapsed completely and stopped moving. Luo Fan cautiously picked up two large stones and hurled them at it. Only after seeing that the bear remained completely motionless did he feel a little more at ease.
He checked the arrows. After collecting them, he had twenty-six in hand. That was pretty good, and Luo Fan was very pleased.
With an uncanny artifact that had a guaranteed-hit property, he now had some decent fighting strength.
"Brother Zhao, what do we do next?"
As they had agreed earlier, the bow and arrows were his now. Luo Fan slung them over his back, then spoke to Zhao Chunfeng.
Zhao Chunfeng glanced at An Xiaoran, who had been silently following behind Luo Fan the whole time, then looked at the survivors from Luo Family Town in the distance. He stood up and said, "As you all know, we're from the Hope Convoy."
"Luo Dahai and his son have been killed. You're free now."
"If you're willing to come with us, you can follow us."
"If you aren't, you can leave." "Our Hope Convoy is very free and fair."
Freedom? Fairness?
For these survivors who had been treated as slaves, those words were incredibly distant.
It was the apocalypse. Leave? After a brief stir, only seven or eight people said they wanted to leave, and Zhao Chunfeng didn't stop them.
The thirty or so people remaining all said they were willing to stay.
With that, Zhao Chunfeng nodded and took in all the remaining members of the Luo Family Town Squad.
"Brother Zhao, Brother Niu, this little truck is mine now, right?" Luo Fan climbed straight into the Luo Family Town Squad's small box truck and called out to Zhao Chunfeng and Niu Dagang.
