Sunagakure.
Everywhere one looked, there were earthen houses that seemed to have been plastered together with mud. Some taller buildings had even been fashioned into oval-shaped rooms on a whim.
If one ignored the purple poisonous mist surrounding all of Sunagakure and the waves of Wind Release constantly circling the village, Sunagakure looked no different from usual.
Ninja, civilians, the elderly, and children all wandered through the village in a daze.
Some lay on the ground, constantly searching for tree roots, sand rats, and even the tenacious desert cockroaches.
Regardless of status or strength, everyone in Sunagakure faced the same problem.
Hunger...
Surrounded by the poisonous mist, they had exhausted their food supplies.
The ninja fared slightly better, since their fighting strength had to be maintained. The civilians had no trace of healthy color in their faces.
With fleshless cheeks, protruding cheekbones, and sunken eyes, they wandered endlessly through the village like walking corpses.
Scrambling, fighting, begging, wailing...
These things happened constantly in every corner of the village. The ninja merely watched, making no move to maintain order.
Pakura walked along Sunagakure's streets. Her once-silky long hair had become terribly coarse, and the flesh had wasted from her face, making it look even longer and narrower.
All around her, civilians stared at her with bloodshot eyes, but none dared approach. Civilians who begged from ninja would be killed on the spot.
After all, there were always kindhearted people who could not withstand their pleas and would share their food with starving civilians, leaving them with insufficient chakra to supply the outer "wind wall."
The dead civilians would be dragged away by others, but these Sand Shinobi would not follow, nor could they bear to follow and see.
