After sharing a plate of East Star Grouper sashimi with Yan Feizhuo, Sheng Nian did not go back to ask for more food. Instead, he stayed beside Yan Feizhuo to supervise his efforts toward their dinner that evening.
Fortunately, the captain's carefully selected fishing spot lived up to its reputation. There really were plenty of fish in these waters, and before long, Yan Feizhuo began getting bites.
Yan Feizhuo lifted his rod, gently guiding the fish to one side with the line, and said to Sheng Nian, "Baby, get the landing net."
Sheng Nian hurriedly picked up the landing net beside him.
Yan Feizhuo drew the fish a little closer, and soon, its black back broke the surface.
Sheng Nian did not recognize the fish, but it looked plump, so he exclaimed, "What a fat fish! It looks like it weighs two or three jin."
Yan Feizhuo skillfully played the fish until he brought it alongside the boat, then called, "Baby, net it."
Sheng Nian's hands moved faster than his brain. He instinctively swung out the landing net and scooped the fish up in one go.
The fish struggled desperately once it left the water, splashing seawater onto Sheng Nian's face. He paid it no mind, casually wiping it off with the back of his hand before dragging the fish over to Yan Feizhuo for him to handle.
Yan Feizhuo secured the rod, took the landing net from him, and said with a smile, "Good luck today. It's a Black Seabream."
He removed the hook, put the Black Seabream in the livewell, then baited the hook again and cast the line back into the sea.
Over the next two hours, Yan Feizhuo kept landing fish: barracuda, Stonefish, squid, Mouse Grouper...
