"I need to think about it."
Sheng Nian thought of his little fans who called themselves the "Lackeys" and hesitated, so he told his brother he needed to think about it first.
Sheng Yi had never demanded much of his little brother. He merely nodded at that. "Okay, that's fine. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. I just want you to do things that make you happy and have a career you love."
"If you like being in front of the camera and want to work in entertainment, I'll support you too. But this time, you can't turn down the family's help again. I don't want you getting bullied anymore, okay?"
Listening to his brother's gentle words, Sheng Nian felt an ache in his heart. He thought again of how their family had ended up in the original novel.
After their father and Daddy died one after the other, his brother had ultimately chosen to shoulder all the debts and criminal charges alone. He had even left Sheng Nian enough money to live comfortably for the rest of his life before going to prison.
"Don't blame yourself, Sheng Nian. This isn't your fault. We were poor judges of character. Don't be scared. You still have me. Wait for me to get out."
The Sheng Nian of the present had not lived through that part of the story, but reading those words had still brought tears to his eyes.
Seeing his little brother suddenly fall silent, his eyes red, Sheng Yi immediately panicked. "What's wrong? Did I say something wrong?"
Sheng Nian shook his head. "No."
"Am I a lot of trouble? Always making you all worry..."
Sheng Yi was silent for a moment, then looked up at Sheng Nian with a trace of confusion and self-reproach in his eyes.
