Zhou Nanxing walked along the road with his friend, his brows tightly furrowed and his expression solemn. The more he thought about it, the more something felt wrong.
What was it?
Zhou Nanxing suddenly jolted. It was Yan Ningke's behavior-he had been unusually polite, seemingly very eager for him to leave.
And the masked man behind him-at first, Zhou Nanxing had assumed he was someone close to Yan Ningke, which was why introducing him would be inconvenient. But thinking back, the look in that man's eyes had clearly been nothing like what he had imagined.
His sinister eyes had been full of wariness, his gaze cold and bloodthirsty.
Zhou Nanxing abruptly stopped, then turned and sprinted back, leaving his friend staring in astonishment.
"Where are you going?!"
Zhou Nanxing could no longer hear anything. All he knew was that something must have happened to Yan Ningke.
A speeding minivan swept past him in the darkness. Inside, Yan Ningke sat in silence, his vision blocked by black cloth, leaving him unable to tell where he was.
Tension filled the vehicle. Apart from another man beside him who was fiddling with a watch, neither the driver nor the man holding him captive spoke.
Yan Ningke licked his lips and suddenly asked, "How much did he pay you?"
A long silence followed.
Yan Ningke chuckled soundlessly. "Double."
"Triple."
"Five times."
Light suddenly flooded his vision as someone yanked off his hood. Yan Ningke narrowed his eyes to ease the sting of the light.
The man holding him captive stared at him with an unreadable gaze. "What do you mean?"
Yan Ningke slowly lifted his long lashes, his voice cool. "You still don't understand? Whatever he paid you, I'll give you five times that amount."
The man fell silent again, staring fixedly at him
