Shen Ting did not dwell on it either. He patted the buddy beneath him and continued his campaign, determined to wipe them out.
Yan Yi strode forward on his long legs, breaking into a run.
In an instant, the entire haunted house filled with Shen Ting's excited shouts and Bai Yuanyuan's and Meng Yun's screams.
Su Yu had just reached the corridor when he encountered Si Chen coming out of the room opposite. They walked together and had barely gone any distance when they spotted Meng Yun fleeing for his life with Bai Yuanyuan on his back.
"Bai, Meng..." Before Su Yu could finish, Meng Yun had already run off with her on his back.
"What's going on? Is it really that scary? None of this is real," Si Chen said, forcing himself to remain calm.
"Exactly. I used to visit haunted houses all the time as a kid." Su Yu smiled and nodded.
"Really?" Behind them, Shen Ting switched off the chainsaw in his hands and asked curiously.
"Yeah."
"Wait, whose question are you answering?" Si Chen's expression suddenly changed.
"Didn't you just ask me?" Su Yu's body began to stiffen too.
"That wasn't me asking." Cold sweat broke out on Si Chen's forehead.
"Then who was it?"
"Me~" Holding the chainsaw, Shen Ting lowered his head between theirs and answered first in a quiet, low voice.
Su Yu and Si Chen both jolted, their necks stiff as they turned around.
The instant they turned, Shen Ting switched on the chainsaw in his hands again, and its green light shone once more.
"The chainsaw ghost?" Su Yu spun around and shot away.
Only Si Chen remained, standing there in a daze.
"A ghost, a ghost..." Si Chen's legs gave out, and he dropped straight to his knees.
Shen Ting stared blankly at the bottom protagonist running into the distance, then at the top protagonist left behind. "Is this the legendary 'every man for himself when disaster strikes'?"
[Same coworkers, different fates. Neither of them could run, but Bai wouldn't abandon young master Meng when he fainted.]
[Su Yu went a little too far this time. He actually ran off without taking our Mr. Si.]
[Our baby Su Yu didn't do it on purpose. Running away is an instinctive reaction when you're scared.]
[Su Yu fan above, stop making excuses. Bai Yuanyuan was scared too, but she didn't forget the person beside her.]
[Si Chen really ate his words, didn't he? He was just saying it was all fake, then he turned around and fell to his knees?]
Shen Ting hopped down from Yan Yi's back and looked at Si Chen, who was slumped on the floor in front of him. "Still not getting up?"
"My... my legs are weak. I can't get up." Si Chen's voice was still trembling.
"Then what do we do?" Yan Yi looked at Shen Ting.
Shen Ting rubbed his chin thoughtfully. Then, apparently struck by an idea, his eyes lit up, and he leaned toward Yan Yi's ear to whisper.
"Sure. Which leg do you want?" Yan Yi's words made Si Chen's hair stand on end again. What did he mean, which leg?
"The left. I'm not picky." Shen Ting waved a hand.
Si Chen looked at Shen Ting in disbelief. He was actually picking one.
"Okay." Yan Yi grabbed Si Chen's right leg.
"Wait, what are you trying to do? I'm telling you, there are cameras everywhere here. Every move you make is right before the eyes of the righteous viewers." Si Chen looked at his thighs, each held in a light grip, his face filled with terror.
"It's good to have ideas in life, but don't let them get too twisted."
With that, Shen Ting exchanged a glance with Yan Yi beside him, and they ran forward together, pulling the legs in their hands.
Fortunately, they reached the exit very quickly.
Si Chen had gone completely numb after being dragged the whole way like a mop.
Su Yu had actually regretted it as soon as he ran out, but he did not have the courage to go back.
Meng Yun and Bai Yuanyuan had come out relatively early. Seeing Shen Ting before them, dressed entirely in red and holding a chainsaw, what was there left to figure out? So this brat had been the one scaring them. What now? Their fists were itching, and they wanted someone to practice on.
"Mr. Si, are you all right?" Su Yu looked at Si Chen with concern.
"I'm fine, Yu. Don't worry." Seeing Su Yu's concern for him, Si Chen's expression eased a little.
"I'm really sorry. I was just... I was just so scared..." Su Yu clutched the hem of his shirt with both hands, his eyes slightly red.
"It's fine. This isn't your fault. It's all because of Shen Ting." Si Chen shot Shen Ting a vicious glare.
Listening to the pair echo each other, Shen Ting curled his lip, looked up at the sky, and raised a clenched fist.
"What should I do? Right now, I really want to become an octopus so I can slap eight people at once."
Si Chen shrank back at those words, as though another word from him would bring that slap swinging toward his face.
Su Yu lowered his head, his eyes filled with gloom.
[These two are hilarious.]
[I want to become an octopus too and experience the joy of slapping eight people.]
[Shen Ting, get the hell out of the entertainment industry.]
[Su Yu is such a fake innocent. He ran away, period, and he's still going on about how he was just scared. He just doesn't love him enough.]
[Don't spout nonsense. ChenYu is definitely real.]
Everyone returned to the villa. Su Yu volunteered to cook dinner for them, hoping to win back their favor.
Seeing this, Shen Ting suddenly remembered the original novel's introduction of the bottom protagonist. He had been treasured and pampered by his whole family since childhood. Even abroad, he had never done any heavy or tiring work, and a chauffeur and a housekeeper had been standard. How could he know how to cook?
As the saying went, anything out of the ordinary was a sign of trouble.
Before Shen Ting could dwell on it much, the sound of a kitchen knife falling into the sink suddenly came from the kitchen.
Clatter!!!
"Ah!" Su Yu's cry of pain came from the kitchen.
The two tall men on the sofa instantly rushed into the kitchen.
Shen Ting took a closer look. Crap! I forgot to leash the dog!!!
Shen Ting hurried into the kitchen, only to see his older brother about to take Su Yu's hand.
The three stood beside the refrigerator.
Shen Ting floored it, planting a kick on the rounded backside before him.
Caught completely off guard, Si Chen pitched forward from the kick, landing squarely between Su Yu and Shen Rui. Si Chen's face pressed firmly against the refrigerator, and Su Yu steadied him.
Shen Rui stared at his right hand, still suspended in midair, his expression sorrowful and conflicted.
Shen Ting had no time to comfort his lovesick doormat of an older brother. He shoved the two troublemaking protagonists straight out of the kitchen.
"If you're hurt, stop wasting time. Yan Yi, come in and help."
Sitting on the sofa eating a lollipop, Yan Yi raised an eyebrow at that, then got up and obediently walked toward the kitchen.
As he passed Su Yu, Yan Yi suddenly stopped.
Su Yu looked at Yan Yi with reddened eyes, the very picture of pitifulness.
"Mr. Yan..."
"This is the wound you made such a fuss over? If we'd come a little later, it probably would've healed already."
Arms folded, Yan Yi looked at Su Yu's hand, where only a tiny patch of skin on his index finger had broken.
Su Yu's expression changed, and he drew his finger back.
