Background and History
The Mittel Family built its position through a network of auction houses. It had less outside backing than the Nalan and Mu families, but its auction business amassed wealth described as rivaling that of a nation 75. Its auction house attracted enough visitors to form a long queue at the ordinary entrance, while access to the VIP entrance required cultivation, family standing, or substantial assets 47.
After Yun Shan broke through to Dou Zong, the Mittel Family joined the imperial family and other major powers in visiting the Misty Cloud Sect 61. Mittel Tengshan later received Xu Qi at the auction-house headquarters and accepted an invitation to the Three-Year Agreement. Xu Qi initially declined Tengshan’s invitation to enter, but agreed when Ya Fei invited him 63.
Xu Qi subsequently made the family’s merger with the Misty Cloud Sect a condition of his help. Hai Bodong and Tengshan accepted because they could not resist the sect directly, though Hai Bodong proposed delaying and looking for a chance to unite other factions against it 73. The Mittel Family was among the powers the Misty Cloud Sect had subdued within the following month 79.
