Harry frowned at the addition problem in front of him.
Was he supposed to use this [Spellbook]'s arithmetic problems to perform some so-called spell calculations?
Was this any way to learn magic?
So far, whether in novels or in theory, Harry had never heard of anyone figuring out magic directly through mathematical calculations, much less through addition alone.
That definitely wasn't how to use it, but how was he supposed to use it, then...
Harry's eyes lit up as a bold idea suddenly came to him!
In the first blank, Harry used his mind to write a spell out of thin air:
Avada Kedavra.
Hey! It worked!
He had written the spell down, but once he finished, the string of English letters became indistinct and unstable, as though it might disappear at any moment.
Strange. When he wrote them down, the characters had clearly been solid.
Harry guessed that this was probably because he had never learned the spell.
If he learned it, then perhaps the spell he wrote down would be solid rather than insubstantial like this.
Since he could write it down, never mind whether it was insubstantial.
Harry thought for a moment, then wrote another spell in the second blank:
Whirlwind Sweep.
He was only giving it a try, anyway. It didn't cost anything, so he could write whatever he dared!
And after Harry finished writing it...
Sure enough!
A very interesting chemical reaction really did occur on the [Spellbook]!
Now, Harry no longer needed to fill anything in.
A spell automatically appeared after the equals sign:
[Killing Tornado] (150 energy bars)
Harry: ???
Leaving aside the number of energy bars, what on earth had he just synthesized?
[Killing Tornado]?
At most, Voldemort kept firing Killing Curses from his wand to cause mass deaths.
Harry's version was different.
He could unleash a Killing Tornado outright. Within its range, anyone it so much as brushed against would die, right?
Hiss...
150 [energy bars] certainly wasn't cheap, but Harry felt that this thing seemed worth the price...
Of course, at present, Harry didn't know either [Avada Kedavra] or [Whirlwind Sweep] at all.
So the [Killing Tornado] spell was still extremely insubstantial, flickering on and off and looking thoroughly unreliable.
Now Harry had finally figured out what this [Spellbook] was for.
So it was a tool for synthesizing spells!
Did this count as a transmigration cheat?
Oh well, never mind.
The [Spellbook] had practically thrown itself into his arms. Did he have any reason to refuse?
Hmm, definitely not. Just like if Malfoy-pfft, pfft, pfft! What did Malfoy have to do with this?
Harry kept trying a few more times and became increasingly hooked!
[Separation Charm] + [Summoning Charm] = [Skinning and Bone-Pulling] (30 energy bars) [Imprisoning Charm] + [Shield Charm] = [Cardiac Arrest] (30 energy bars) [Cruciatus Curse] + [Prior Incantato] = [Eternal Agony] (90 energy bars)
Harry explored a whole range of spells like these.
Honestly, it was pretty fun.
Even though he didn't know a single spell yet, and his [energy bars] were emptier than his underpants were clean.
Still, that didn't stop Harry from feasting his eyes and seeing what bizarre spells he could synthesize.
This would be his fighting power in the future, after all. There was no harm in taking a good look.
Although Harry felt that the [Spellbook]'s functions probably weren't limited to synthesizing spells, and that it might have other uses.
But he couldn't discover those other uses right now...
Being able to synthesize spells was good enough.
Harry did have some guesses about other possibilities, such as assisting with alchemy or synthesizing magical items.
But simply writing in materials for magical or alchemical items didn't seem to produce a preview, so Harry could only give up for now.
He would take another look once he encountered the actual items.
The reason he had come up with this idea...
Was simply that, after synthesizing spells just now, Harry had glanced at the cage beside him.
Hagrid's gift to him, the snowy owl Hedwig.
In the original story, this adorable, loyal snowy owl had fallen from high in the sky after Harry came of age, parting from him forever...
Moved by the thought, Harry had put Hedwig straight into it.
And, sure enough!
Hedwig could be synthesized!
In other words, Fantastic Beasts were actually included in the [Spellbook]'s synthesis addition!
However, Hedwig only occupied one slot. He needed an item in the other slot to synthesize with her before he could see anything.
Unfortunately, he had nothing right now. Harry was so poor that money was all he had on him.
Setting aside Hedwig's synthesis, he went back to tinkering with spells.
Based on the spells first-year young wizards could learn, Harry already had some synthesis targets in mind!
Naturally, Harry had a purpose in synthesizing spells.
In the original story, Harry had been far too bedraggled during the Philosopher's Stone plot...
Using the magic of "love" to corrode Quirrell's skin and foil Voldemort's scheme really did smack a little of plot armor.
Harry hoped that, through his own efforts, he could gain the ability to face Quirrell head-on!
After all, whatever else, he had a cheat now. If he didn't study spells properly and improve his strength, wouldn't he be letting his good fortune down?
He knew it would be difficult, but he had to try, didn't he?
However, the most important thing right now was this.
How exactly was he supposed to obtain [energy bars]?
Harry didn't know, but he could keep experimenting.
Based on Harry's knowledge of the original story, every young wizard entered the stage of full magical awakening after turning eleven.
What distinguished this stage from before was that their magic began to become controllable.
Before this, wizards often struggled to notice the effects of their magic. They could only passively and unconsciously perform some wondrous magic, often without realizing it themselves.
But these were all the results of magic acting unintentionally; they couldn't use it of their own accord.
Now things were different.
With the right method, Harry could control his magic to cast spells, brew Potions, and so on...
In that case...
"Why not try using magic?"
Apart from having sound values, the original Harry had sometimes been rather dim...
The current Harry needed to wise up. He couldn't keep being so foolish.
As Harry's face flushed red, he strained so hard that he let out several farts.
In the end.
Pfft~
Having never systematically studied the relevant techniques, Harry left the storage cupboard first and went to the toilet.
