At that, Malfu ignored the glares from Neville, Hermione, and Ron and held her hand straight out to Harry.
Just as Malfu had said, an idiot, a Mudblood, and a disgrace among pure-blood wizards-what did their feelings have to do with her?
"Come on, Harry. Perhaps once you're in Slytherin, you'll thank me."
"Sigh."
Harry felt a little helpless, but he still reached out and gently shook Malfu's soft, delicate little hand.
After all, Harry was still in his shell, trying to smooth things over. He did not want to get too involved with anyone; he just wanted to study hard and improve every day.
And, along the way, use the spells he learned, together with the help of the [Spellbook], to build up his strength!
That way, amid all the upheavals to come, perhaps Harry could not only make a better life for himself, but also spare the people around him so much suffering, couldn't he?
The Malfu family would no longer have to endure Voldemort's crushing pressure and struggle to survive.
The Weasley family would not lose a member forever, nor would four ears become one.
Hermione would not have to endure the pain of casting a Memory Charm on her parents and sending them to Australia for refuge.
Perhaps Dumbledore and Snape would not have to die, either?
Besides, the wizarding world was far too insular and stagnant.
Why couldn't they build a world of magical technology, where magic and science intertwined?
He had transmigrated, after all. Harry still had a few grand ambitions!
"Miss Malfu, not to contradict you, but all roads lead to Rome. Aren't the descendants of pure-blood nobility descended from the first generation of pure-blood wizards, too? What do you think?"
"Besides, all four Hogwarts houses were founded by great wizards. Whether Godric Gryffindor or Salazar Slytherin, they were great figures of their time. There's no need for us to belittle the other houses, is there?"
"Getting into a particular Hogwarts house can only prove that a student possesses some fine quality passed down by its Founder, such as courage, loyalty, wisdom, or adaptability-not recklessness or overweening ambition, right?"
Whether Malfu took Harry's words to heart was unknown.
But Ron, Hermione, and Neville, listening beside them, found them very interesting.
Especially Hermione-she could not have agreed more with what Harry said!
He truly lived up to his place in history as the Boy Who Lived!
Being able to say such things certainly earned Harry Hermione's approval. Ron, however...
Hermione glanced at Ron, who had started eating again, and could not help sighing.
Never mind. That could wait.
"...Being friends doesn't stop me from being friends with other people too, does it, Draco?"
Harry was already being extremely tactful.
Compared with how he had sided directly with Ron in the original story, Harry felt he had exhausted every nice thing he could say.
At present, Draco was simply a little prickly and unwilling to admit her feelings. She had not done anything bad, and her attitude toward him had actually been fairly friendly. There was no need to insist on offending her and starting a feud.
"What do you mean by that, Potter?"
At Harry's words, Malfu's little face immediately scrunched up.
"Are you saying my ancestors, the noble Malfoy family, were Mudbloods too?"
"I mean nothing of the sort. But I don't actually discriminate against any wizards, including those you mentioned. After all, my mother was a Muggle-born witch too, but she was wonderful, wasn't she?"
"I..."
Left speechless by Harry, Malfoy fell silent despite himself.
What he said sounded so reasonable.
But every house-no, wait, the Four Founders really did all seem to be very great...
Besides, Harry had even brought up his late mother. He really didn't mean any harm...
In Britain, no matter what, since tragedy had befallen his parents, I absolutely couldn't take the initiative to attack him over that.
Potter really was rather pitiful, and what he said sounded so reasonable.
But if that was the case, wouldn't being friends with him mean I'd also have to be friends with that Mudblood and that disgrace to pure blood?
Malfoy shot an oblique glance at Hermione and Ron and unconsciously shuddered.
Ewww~
How disgusting!
No, no, she wouldn't accept it. Absolutely not!
Besides, what exactly was I agreeing with?
How could I, Malfu, possibly be persuaded by anyone else?
Hmph, that would make me look so bad!
"Hmph, then go be with those friends of yours!"
"I never wanted to be friends with you anyway, Potter. Don't flatter yourself!"
Unable to think of any argument, Malfu simply flung Harry's hand away and stamped her little leather shoe hard on the compartment floor.
Taking Crabbe and Goyle with her, she left Harry's compartment.
In truth, Malfu had been a little reluctant to let go. When she shook his hand off just now, she had wanted to use force, yet had not wanted to, leaving her feeling utterly miserable.
As she turned away, Harry even vaguely caught sight of what seemed to be a little redness around Malfu's eyes...
Harry: ...
Honestly. Even this made her feel wronged.
Harry could tell that she had clearly taken his words to heart, but Malfu simply seemed to feel she had lost face...
She had been the one to offer him her friendship and object to Harry staying with Ron and the others, only to turn around and change her story...
Why did this female version of Malfu seem to be so much trouble?
So stubborn about hiding her feelings. Sigh...
Faced with this situation, Harry had no idea what to do and could only let out a quiet, speechless sigh.
"Sigh..."
"Oh, come on, Harry. What are you sighing for?"
Ron pulled Harry by the arm and sat back down on the compartment seat.
"Don't tell me you actually want to be friends with someone like that? If you ask me, she's every bit as annoying as her dad. Always going on about pure blood, when they're nothing but You-Know-Who's loyal dogs themselves..."
"If her father didn't have a bit of money, the Ministry of Magic would have hauled her whole family off to Azkaban for being Death Eaters!"
Ron's tongue was no gentler. When he talked about people behind their backs, he went straight for their sorest spots.
"Ron, don't keep going after her either. Let's talk about something else."
Harry patted Ron's shoulder and changed the subject, leaving the matter behind.
Wouldn't talking about Hogwarts's four houses be better? Enough about this sort of thing. Too much of it annoyed him too.
Once everyone had calmed down a little, Harry planned to go back to reading his Potions textbook, so that damned Snape would not keep picking on him when the time came...
