On the Island of Silence, Brook stepped into a realm shrouded in perpetual silence. His opponent was Limejuice-one of the earliest members of the Red Hair Pirates, a man who turned violence into absolute silence.
The Island of Silence lived up to its name.
There was no sound of wind, no sound of the sea, no birdsong or chirping insects. Pale moonlight spilled over the island, illuminating its strange black rocks, smooth as mirrors. These rocks seemed to possess some sound-absorbing property. Any sound that fell upon the island-footsteps, breathing, clashing weapons-would be absorbed, devoured, and vanish the instant it was made. At the island's center lay a graveyard, its headstones crooked, their inscriptions long since illegible. The entire scene seemed like a fragment cut from some silent nightmare.
Brook walked along a path paved with black rock. His skeletal feet landed on the stone with soft clicks, but the sounds disappeared after traveling only two or three meters, as though blocked by invisible walls. He took off his top hat and wiped his polished skull-although there was no sweat to wipe away, it was a habit from when he was alive.
"Yohohoho~" He tried a laugh, but it faded into nothing the moment it left his mouth. Even he could not hear it. "This really is... an incredibly quiet island. Suitable for playing a requiem, but rather too lonely for a battlefield."
Holding his cane sword in his right hand and carrying his violin case in his left, he continued toward the graveyard at the island's center. As someone who had already died once, he felt no fear of graveyards; instead, they gave him an inexplicable sense of familiarity. But now, in the absolute silence, this graveyard seemed especially eerie.
"Thud."
It was not a sound, but a vibration.
