After weighing things for a moment, Scrimgeour had to admit that he would rather deal with Sirius than an enigmatic, eccentric politician like Douglas.

At least this rebellious scion of an ancient pure-blood family wore his desires openly on his face. A greedy merchant and aristocratic heir was far easier to control than a politician in a scholar's guise.

Scrimgeour signaled for the Aurors behind him to put away their wands.

"I'll have my office supervisor discuss this matter with you in detail next Monday." Scrimgeour adjusted his collar and glanced at Newt, who remained calm. "Since this is a Magizoology research project overseen by Mr. Scamander, Auror Command naturally trusts that it has no connection to the armed Dark Wizards of Knockturn Alley."

With that, the lame Auror turned briskly around.

"Everyone, withdraw!"

Fred and George watched the Aurors leave and let out exaggerated sighs, their voices full of regret.

"Ah... what a shame. I thought we'd get a deposit straight out of the Ministry of Magic's pocket today and replace our centrifuge's gears with a mithril set."

"Yeah, our research funding's been delayed again," George agreed, pouting.

Sirius turned back, curled his lip at the two of them, rolled his eyes, and gave a loud snort.

"Hmph! Trying to squeeze money out of me to subsidize Douglas's private projects? Dream on! If you want funding, tell Douglas to drag himself to my office at the Griffin's Nest and beg me to sign off on it!"

With that, Sirius tossed his long hair smugly and strode toward the portal.

Behind him, Fred and George exchanged a glance with Newt, who stood with his hands behind his back. Newt slowly turned around.

"Ah, you've all picked up his bad habits... You two boys, get back to work..."
