As he slowly made his way farther in, he was almost at the middle of the water, but the Grindylow still had not appeared.
This made him a little nervous, but he could only keep swimming slowly forward.
Just then, he suddenly spotted a pair of eyes hidden behind the water plants. Without another word, he hurriedly drew his wand and shouted, "Stupefy... mmm, glug, glug..."
He was only halfway through the incantation when his body sank rapidly, submerging his mouth.
After swallowing a mouthful of water, he hurriedly shut his mouth.
Strangely, though, he noticed that the Grindylow had not attacked. Keeping his eyes fixed on it, he slowly swam toward the surface.
Unfortunately, he had not noticed that his movements had been too forceful when he sank just now. Sensing the disturbance, the water plants rapidly stretched out.
Just as he reached the surface, he discovered that something had grabbed his feet.
Thinking it was the Grindylow, he no longer bothered with his wand and hurriedly kicked out, trying to strike its head and make it let go.
After several kicks failed to connect, he quickly looked underwater and discovered that the Grindylow had not moved. It was still watching him from behind the plants.
He hurriedly lowered his head and discovered that several strands of water plants had wrapped around him.
More importantly, his kicking had prompted several more strands to launch sneak attacks at him.
His mind reeled. Only now did he recognize that the plants wrapped around him were not ordinary plants from the bottom of the Black Lake, but a type of magical plant he had studied in Herbology. No wonder the Grindylow had not rushed at him. It must have suffered at the hands of these plants before.
For a moment, he could
