Bell: "The World Shall Burn Beneath My Wrath!"
Bell gathered his scattered thoughts and realized that he seemed to have gone off-topic.
Unlike the cheap Unforgivable Curses, the Fiendfyre Curse was a truly powerful curse. At least, that was how Bell saw it. The Fiendfyre Curse was nearly perfect: immense power, low consumption, difficult to evade. Its only flaw was that it was hard to control and could easily burn its caster to death. And that problem of difficult control was precisely what Bell wanted to improve.
If Bell voiced his thoughts, he would surely draw the scorn of many Wizards, even many Dark Wizards, because in their eyes, the Fiendfyre Curse was nowhere near that powerful.
The so-called "Fiendfyre that burns all things" was mostly just an intimidating slogan.
However, if they had carefully studied the previous Dark Lord, Grindelwald, they would never think that way. If not for Nicolas Flamel's intervention, a single Fiendfyre Curse from Grindelwald could have completely incinerated Paris, killing hundreds of thousands, perhaps even millions.
After studying all sorts of relevant materials and personally observing his parents cast the Fiendfyre Curse, Bell discovered where the problem lay.
The Fiendfyre Curses cast by modern Wizards were not truly "Fiendfyre Curses." Rather, after learning of Fiendfyre's power and characteristics, some people conveyed the thought of "I want to cast identical flames" to their Magic Power. Their Magic Power then forcibly imitated a kind of flame based on that thought. That was why the Fiendfyre they cast was not particularly powerful, only slightly stronger than an ordinary Flame Spell.
As mentioned before, casting Dark Magic required infusing it with negative emotions. This was especially apparent with the Fiendfyre Curse. To cast true "Fiendfyre that burns all things," one had to pour in an extremely intense emotion. That emotion was the "rage" that wished to burn everything to ashes. Only supreme fury could ignite supreme flames.
Before improving the curse, the first thing Bell needed to do was successfully ignite true Fiendfyre.
Bell entered the Spell Training Room. A Pensieve sat on a table inside, with wisps of white matter slowly swirling within it.
Bell walked over to the Pensieve, drew his Wand, and stirred it several times. Images emerged above the Pensieve. These were memories Bell had prepared in advance. In order to stir up extreme rage within himself, Bell had painstakingly created a false memory.
"Lim," Bell called softly as he checked the fabricated memory one last time.
With a sharp pop, Lim, Bell's personal House-elf, appeared at his side.
"How may I serve you, Young Master?"
"I'm conducting a magical experiment. I need your help."
Having finished checking everything, Bell turned to Lim and gestured toward the Pensieve on the table.
"In a moment, I'll implant this memory into my mind. Hide to one side and watch me. If I lose control, stun me and extract this memory exactly as it is. Remember, it must be extracted intact—not one bit more, not one bit less."
"Young Master, isn't this too dangerous? You shouldn't be doing something so dangerous! Lord William and Lady Elena would never agree! And how could I possibly attack you?"
Hearing that Bell might lose control, Lim was terrified. She waved her hands frantically, trying to stop him from taking such a risk.
"I know perfectly well what I should and shouldn't do. Also, you are not to tell anyone about today's events! Now, I'm giving you three minutes to prepare. Did you bring your Wand?" Bell said in an unquestionable tone.
"Yes, Young Master. I brought it."
Lim pulled a Wand from her clothes. Bell had made it himself, as he had crafted Wands for all the House-elves in his home. Naturally, they were still far weaker than the Wands made by Ollivander, but they were much better than being empty-handed.
"Good."
Bell took a deep breath and pointed his Wand at his own head. Before implanting the false memory, he needed to temporarily seal and alter part of his own memories to ensure that he would not notice anything amiss.
Soon, all preparations were complete. Bell opened his eyes and looked at Lim, who stood tensely nearby.
"Are you ready?"
"Yes, Young Master," Lim said after drawing a deep breath.
"Remember, if I lose control, you must attack me with all your strength immediately! You won't be hurting me—you'll be saving me! Understood?"
After seeing Lim nod, Bell tossed his Wand to her.
"Go hide."
Lim carefully put away her Young Master's Wand, then cast a Disillusionment Charm on herself and cautiously hid.
Bell spread his palm above the Pensieve. As though drawn by an invisible force, the memories inside floated toward his hand, then coiled around his arm and drifted toward his head.
Like water soaking into a sponge, the white, wispy memories were rapidly absorbed into Bell's mind. Bell stood motionless with his eyes closed, and the Training Room fell into a deathly silence.
Under Lim's nervous gaze, an unknown amount of time passed before Bell finally moved.
Bell slowly lowered his raised arm, and his entire body began to tremble faintly. Then, he abruptly opened his eyes. It was hard to believe they were human eyes. There was no distinction between whites and pupils anymore, only a sea of blood-red scarlet.
"Ah—!"
A beastlike wail erupted from Bell's mouth. Powerful waves of Magic Power burst from his body, sending everything around him flying. His robes billowed without wind, dust rose from the ground, and even the air trembled with Bell's rage.
Bell charged toward the Training Room's door, only to be blocked by a barrier.
Consumed by rage, Bell could not be bothered to think. He immediately gathered Magic Power in his right arm and threw a punch. But the barrier before him had been specially reinforced beforehand. Without a Wand, there was no way he could shatter it in one blow.
After a violent tremor, the barrier remained unharmed, but Bell's right arm was severely injured.
The eruption of such immense Magic Power was far beyond what Bell could withstand at his current level. Several bone-deep gashes split open across his right arm, blood spraying from them. Yet he seemed completely unable to feel the pain as he began gathering Magic Power into his left arm.
"Stunning Spell!"
A sharp voice cried out. Lim had finally acted.
She had hesitated for only a moment, yet her Young Master had already suffered such grave injuries.
At that moment, Lim was overcome with guilt and nearly wanted to kill herself to atone. But she had no time to think about that. Seeing her Young Master preparing another self-destructive attack, Lim immediately cast a Stunning Spell at Bell.
The sudden attack clearly caught Bell by surprise. As he was directing Magic Power toward his left arm, he only had time to hastily draw a small amount to his back, forming a weak shield.
The shield shattered the instant it met the curse. Bell was struck by the Stunning Spell and staggered forward. However, because Lim held back and had not used her full strength, Bell did not completely lose consciousness. He fell to his knees and swayed as he tried to rise.
