After passing through the corridor, the player finally saw daylight.

Thick clouds hung overhead, but at least there were no longer enclosed stone walls.

Ahead lay an open, dilapidated courtyard.

Broken stone walls surrounded the small courtyard, their tops overgrown with withered yellow weeds. Cracked flagstones paved the ground, with unidentified weeds poking through the gaps.

A large dead tree stood in the center of the courtyard, its trunk split and its bare branches reaching toward the sky.

Beneath the tree, a rocking chair swayed gently.

An old man who was little more than skin and bones lay in the rocking chair. His skin was shriveled like dry bark, clinging tightly to his bones.

His eyes were sunk deep into their sockets, their pupils almost invisible, leaving only two black holes. His lips were cracked, exposing sparse yellow teeth.

The rocking chair swayed gently back and forth, creaking like a clock swinging from side to side.

The player approached to talk.

The old man's head slowly turned toward the Tarnished, those two black, hollow sockets seeming to watch something. "...I saw it all, outsider. Look what you've done."

His hoarse, dry voice sounded as though it had been squeezed from the depths of his throat, carrying an inexplicable weariness. "My name is Jergal... a forgotten old man... I am aged, alone... yet it has been so long since I felt death. Oh, it is all that damned gold..."

Jergal asked in anguish, "Tell me, why did you kill so mercilessly? Knights, Flying Dragons, Ancient Dragons... old or young... you never showed mercy. Death is indeed a gift, but why must you be so cruel? This old man is asking you... answer me, storm from afar."

Two options appeared on the screen.

``` [Because I wanted to kill]
