He rose into the air, a slender whip in one hand and a sharp curved blade in the other. His stance looked like both a declaration of war and some strange invitation.

Tani uttered that single icy word, and her aura abruptly changed, as though some slumbering power had awakened in an instant.
She, too, beat her wings and took flight with a piercing whistle of wind.
The two winged figures abruptly tangled in midair, turning into blurred afterimages moving at high speed.
Though it looked like an exchange of blows, the difference in strength was almost immediately apparent: Tani knew every current of air intimately, while Pete was clearly only just growing accustomed to his new wings.
