|---|---|---|
| Early Devil Fruit user | 20 32 | Covers his body in mucus to imitate invulnerability. His early control is limited, and fire can turn the coating against him. |
| Formal physical training begins | 41 | Rossi orders 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, and 100 squats daily. Seastone-assisted training is introduced for the Family’s Devil Fruit users. |
| Improved physique | 75 | Three months of strenuous training and increased food intake produce visible muscular development, though he still trails his companions physically. |

| High-speed underwater mimicry | 184 | Mimicry: Sea Beast replaces his earlier slow underwater transport with a creation capable of racing beneath the sea. |
| Armament Haki confirmed | 263 | Coats an eruption of slime spikes in Armament Haki against Patrick Redfield. He had still lacked this power earlier 153 154. |
| Improved physical resilience | 334 | Can take a blow from the Minotaur Warrior Karuchu directly to the face without flinching. |
| Refined mucus deception | 345 | Uses precise Observation Haki control to maintain convincing false bodies while concealing his real body within the surrounding mucus. External presence concealment makes the tactic more effective. |
History
Four Suits and the Family’s Formation
Trebol began as one of the Four Suits alongside Diamante, Vergo, and Pica. Before joining Doflamingo, they were local toughs with little experience beyond their home port 16 32. Trebol and Diamante had endured harassment from nobles, rival thugs, and constables together, forming a particularly close friendship 129.
When Rossi and Doflamingo helped rescue the group, Trebol was too badly injured to stand unaided. Pica and Diamante carried him during their escape 22 23. Afterward, Trebol tried to kneel to Doflamingo, but Rossi insisted that genuine family members should prove their bond through actions rather than submission 24.
Trebol supported Doflamingo’s decision to destroy the Jiedi Family and supplied information about its territory, businesses, and hired fighters 24 25. During the fighting, he swung Rossi toward an enemy warship with a mucus rope and helped approach another vessel underwater 30 32. His flammable mucus later became the fuel for Rossi’s counterattack against Thompson’s Swamp-Swamp Fruit 36.
After their victory, Trebol eagerly raised the question of formally establishing the Family. Rossi and Doflamingo reassured the original four that their shared battles had already secured their place 40.
North Blue Voyages
Trebol chose to sail with Rossi and Doflamingo rather than remain ashore. Rossi immediately placed him under a daily exercise regimen, beginning a prolonged effort to reduce his dependence on his Devil Fruit 41.
His caution frequently clashed with the brothers’ willingness to take risks. When he learned that Baruf Tani was leading a coalition of pirate crews toward the city, he urged an immediate departure 46 47. He also tried to interrupt Rossi and Doflamingo’s increasingly serious duel, fearing that their rivalry could split the Family 71 72.
Despite that caution, Trebol protested when Rossi proposed facing an overwhelmingly powerful enemy alone, demanding that the Family attack together instead 97. He subsequently joined the departure from the North Blue for the Grand Line 107.
Food Island and Survival Against Ricardo
Against Ricardo, Trebol ignited a field of mucus into an intense blaze, but Ricardo emerged and apparently decapitated him 128. The severed head proved to be mucus: Trebol had survived through Observation Haki and his false-body technique, although the attack shaved away a patch of his scalp 129.
After the battle, he regretted the billions of Beli lost when the Family and Marines destroyed the plantation producing Devil’s Breath. Unlike Rossi, he was concerned with the crop’s monetary value rather than its effects on its victims 132.
Expanding Responsibilities
Trebol accompanied Rossi to Marine Headquarters and later transported him underwater to Impel Down for a covert infiltration 178 184. On returning to Dressrosa, he defeated the newly Armament-capable Kyros by overwhelming him with adhesive mucus inside the colosseum 229.
As the Family’s territory expanded, Trebol and Jora managed its internal correspondence 258. He also oversaw the distribution of Artificial Devil Fruits and examined documents concerning a Seastone mining project in Wano 273 300.
At Spider Miles, Trebol berated Bolkin over refugee shacks built beside the Family’s dock. His accusation prompted Bolkin to move against the settlement until Rossi intervened 304. Trebol later explained that he had been warning the increasingly restless subordinate, not planning to kill all the refugees, and accepted Rossi’s decision to retain Monet and Sugar 305.
Later Conflicts and Reunion
Trebol participated in the Family’s encounters with Ochoku and Charlotte Linlin. By the marriage-alliance negotiations, experience against legendary opponents had made him less easily intimidated, though he remained careful to avoid Oven’s heat-based powers 345 369.
During the battle around the airborne Golden City, he worked with Diamante, Vergo, and Pica to keep the city intact under the combatants’ shock waves 396. After Imu removed Rossi from the battlefield, Trebol ordered the surviving allies to retreat 406.
Trebol later wept with relief upon hearing Doflamingo’s voice over a Den Den Mushi. When Doflamingo returned to Dressrosa, Trebol embraced him so tightly that he practically hung from his suit 454 461.
Alternate-World Counterpart
In another world, Doflamingo encounters an emaciated Trebol imprisoned in Impel Down’s frozen Level 6 and frees him 406. This counterpart is explicitly distinguished from the Trebol of Doflamingo’s own world: he trembles at the prospect of releasing the “Devil’s Descendant,” while Doflamingo is struck by how weak that world’s Family members are 408.
Appearance
Trebol is two meters tall, with a thin real body concealed beneath a much bulkier coating of mucus 22 41 71.
- Mucus-covered face and clothing: Slime hangs from his face and lapels, reinforcing his swollen silhouette 23 333.
- Hat and coat: Wears a rounded top hat or bowler-style hat and a gaudy coat 180 334 380.
- Carved cane: Frequently grips or gestures with a cane; its tip is metal 72 180.
- Temporary bald patch: Ricardo’s near-fatal strike scrapes away part of his hair and exposes his scalp 129.
Personality
Trebol combines grand ambitions with strong survival instincts. He proclaims that the sea will eventually kneel before the Family, yet readily urges retreat when he believes an opponent is beyond them 41 46. His fear of Rossi and Doflamingo’s duel also reflects concern for the Family’s cohesion, not merely his own safety 71 72.
He is boastful about victories and sensitive to being outperformed. After defeating Kyros, he immediately taunts Diamante and Vergo about their earlier losses 229. Although he sometimes trains desperately, he remains the Family member Rossi criticizes for exercising the least, and he envies more spectacular Devil Fruits 75 233 333.
His loyalty does not extend to outsiders. He openly dismisses ordinary people’s lives while burning an enemy construct assembled from living victims, and he values the Devil’s Breath plantation primarily as lost income 132 145. Toward his companions, however, he can be openly affectionate, grateful, and tearful 334 454 461.
Abilities & Skills
Sticky-Sticky Fruit
Trebol produces and shapes highly adhesive mucus for restraint, defense, transport, and deception 20 32 179 184.
- Restraint: Floods enclosed spaces or envelops individual opponents, trapping limbs and weapons 65 180.
- Impact cushioning: Forms a large gelatinous sphere to soften an otherwise deadly collision with a city wall 117.
- Utility constructs: Creates ropes, chairs, and hollow underwater vessels 30 32 110.
- Mimicry: Changes mucus into convincing imitations of his body, seawater, or ordinary terrain 32 179.
- False-body defense: Hides his real body elsewhere within the mucus while enemies attack a decoy. This is not true elemental transformation 180 345.
- Water resistance: His mucus does not dissolve in seawater, allowing already-created vessels to operate underwater even though immersion weakens him personally 32 231.
Named Slime Techniques
| Technique | Effect |
|---|---|
| Slime: Sea of Fire | Coats a target in mucus and ignites it with a flaming glob launched from his cane 145. |
| Slime: Eruption | Shoots adhesive gel over an enemy’s face; attempts to remove it can trap their hands as well 179. |
| Slime: Swamp | Disguises the ground beneath surrounding mucus, trapping approaching enemies when they step into it 179. |
| Slime: Sky Net | Spreads a large aerial mucus net to catch enemies attempting to leap over his traps 179. |
| Mimicry: Sea Beast | Encloses a boat and its occupants inside a fast-moving underwater slime creature 184. |
| Sea Urchin | Erupts outward with numerous Armament-coated slime spikes 263. |
Incendiary Attacks
Trebol turns his mucus’s flammability into an offensive weapon 128 138.
- Launches slime that heats through air friction and ignites into burning projectiles 138.
- Sustains large-area bombardments that burn sails, masts, and decks; the sticky fuel is difficult to extinguish even with seawater 138.
- Uses mass ignition against large targets, including a creature assembled from living people 145.
- Risks burning allies as well as enemies when mucus ignites across a shared battlefield 36.
Haki
- Observation Haki: Anticipates attacks and precisely controls his evasive mucus-body deception 125 345.
- Danger sensing: Detects the threat of a Holy Knight’s missile barrage, but cannot foresee its precise future course 160.
- Armament Haki: Eventually reinforces his slime spikes with Haki 263.
Administration
- Supplies detailed intelligence about local criminal organizations and pirate reputations 24 25 46.
- Finds buyers for captured goods and arranges conversion into money, gold, or weapons 90.
- Handles internal correspondence with Jora and supervises Artificial Devil Fruit allocations 258 273.
Weaknesses
- Fire and extreme heat: Can ignite his mucus coating. Oven remains a particularly dangerous matchup even late in the story 20 369.
- Limited early close combat: Without his fruit, he initially becomes an easy target for Diamante during unarmed sparring 70.
- Breakable restraints: Powerful slashes can cut through his mucus, making endurance, terrain, and matchup important 125 229.
- Not genuinely intangible: His apparent invulnerability depends on misdirection and hiding his real body 180 345.
- Overwhelming opponents: Redfield evades his Haki-coated spikes and incapacitates him despite his quick reaction 263.
Equipment
- Cane: Used for gestures, directing attacks, and launching burning slime 145 180.
- Rounded hat and gaudy coat: Regular elements of his attire 180 334.
- Mucus constructs: Creates temporary transport, restraints, decoys, and furniture rather than relying solely on conventional equipment 32 110 180 184.
Relationships
- Doflamingo — Leader and cherished companion. Trebol initially treats him with reverence, later serving him through combat and administration; their reunion leaves Trebol openly sobbing 24 90 461.
- Rossi — Rescuer, trainer, and frequent critic. Rossi rejects kneeling as a basis for family, pushes Trebol to improve, and is visibly relieved when he survives Ricardo 24 41 129.
- Diamante — His closest friend within the Family, bonded through their difficult early years. Their affection coexists with boasting and competitive teasing 129 229.
- Vergo — Fellow original member and sparring partner. Trebol’s gloating after defeating Kyros earns him an immediate invitation to fight Vergo 229.
- Pica — Fellow original member who carries him during their rescue and later urges him to improve his hand-to-hand combat 22 153.
- Jora — Administrative colleague responsible alongside him for the Family’s internal correspondence 258.
- Bolkin — Subordinate whom Trebol deliberately intimidates to reinforce the authority of the Family’s senior members 304 305.
- Oguri Cap and Rody — Allies whose earlier help he openly acknowledges, telling them that several Family members might otherwise have died 334.
