Background

Ma Xiaotao is Elder Xuan's sole disciple, whom he raised like a daughter. Her Evil Fire Phoenix Martial Soul gives her immense offensive power, but its violent defect can affect her mind and leave her unable to control the flames; she had previously relied on Xu Sanshi's water attribute for limited relief. 53 58

When Minghui visited Shrek's Inner Court, Xiaotao's Martial Soul reacted strongly to his Azure Luan Beast Soul. The elders determined that the pair could form a Martial Soul Fusion Skill, and Xiaotao chose to maintain a good relationship with him partly because his Ultimate Ice could suppress her Evil Fire. 52 53

She and Minghui subsequently developed an Ice-Fire Body Tempering cycle. Minghui's ice-attribute Soul Power wore down the Evil Fire while the returned flame tempered his body; the process became a mutually beneficial cultivation method. 58 59
