"I heard you're planning to take the postgraduate entrance exam. I've been thinking about taking it lately too, so I wanted to get some advice from you."
"Oh, I see."
Yang Yuntong steadied herself and moved the things on her desk aside a little. "Have a seat, then. But I only started preparing recently myself, so I don't know all that much about the exam."
"That's fine. You know more than I do, at least."
Gu Qing sat down right beside Yang Yuntong, completely unconcerned by the looks coming his way.
During class.
Neither of them listened to the foreign instructor lecturing up front. Both had their heads down, working through past postgraduate entrance exam papers.
Most liberal arts majors in college were pretty lightweight.
The classes offered so little substance it was outrageous.
Rather than listening attentively to their teachers, many students preferred working through practice questions at their desks.
Civil service exams, postgraduate entrance exams, proficiency tests, certification exams... they worked through a bit of everything. It was more useful than listening to lectures, anyway.
An hour later.
The familiar text arrived right on schedule.
[You have studied with your classmate Yang Yuntong for over an hour] [Focus +1] [Learning ability +1] [Accumulate 100 points of learning ability to obtain the attribute-exceptional comprehension] [Points currently obtained: 1]
Just as I thought!
Only people he had known long enough could provide attributes from their tags.
He just didn't know how long he needed to know them.
It looked like he would have to find that younger sports student and test it out later...
Reining in his thoughts a little.
Gu Qing looked away from the text and returned his gaze to the past exam papers in front of him.
After casually working through a few questions, he noticed that his concentration while answering them had improved considerably.
Even when he encountered a question he couldn't solve, he only needed to read the explanation carefully once to fully grasp it and easily apply what he had learned to other problems.
His concentration and learning ability had both improved noticeably.
Once I accumulate 100 points of learning ability and obtain the attribute-exceptional comprehension, I might just turn straight into Einstein.
Exceptional comprehension + Knotted Muscles = a Superman with Einstein's IQ.
I'd probably be invincible on earth and in heaven too.
Just thinking about it excited Gu Qing.
Meanwhile, Yang Yuntong beside him wore an expression of utter disbelief.
She had been working through past postgraduate entrance exam papers for almost a month.
Yet now that she was doing them alongside Gu Qing, she discovered that she couldn't even keep up with him.
Every time she had only just finished reading a question, Gu Qing had already written down the answer.
Who exactly was helping whom prepare for the exam?
Time passed quickly.
In the blink of an eye.
Both of the morning's long classes were over.
Gu Qing had studied with Yang Yuntong for three hours in total, gaining 3 points of learning ability.
Now, he could achieve twice the results with half the effort when studying. Nobody in his class knew more about studying than he did.
"Come on, let's eat at the dining hall."
Chen Zijie walked up to Gu Qing as he spoke.
Gao Fei had a girlfriend and had defected to eat with her.
Qian Duole was a lazy bum who couldn't be bothered to queue for food at the dining hall. He had ordered takeout before class even ended.
With two of the four roommates having defected, only Gu Qing was left to go to the dining hall with him.
"Let's go, then."
Gu Qing rose from his seat.
Then he added:
"Let's stop by the restroom first. I drank too much water during class. I kind of need to go."
On the way to the restroom.
Chen Zijie suddenly asked:
"So... you've got your eye on Yang Yuntong?"
"No."
"Then why did you go sit with her?"
"Sitting with her doesn't equal having my eye on her."
Gu Qing tossed out a classic, all-purpose inequality.
Chen Zijie was puzzled. "So why did you go sit with her?"
Gu Qing said, "If I told you I could tell at a glance that she was a top student, and I wanted to study with her to improve my grades and prepare for next year's postgraduate entrance exam, would you believe me?"
Chen Zijie said, "Anyone who believes that is a fucking idiot."
They arrived at the restroom.
They lowered their waistbands.
The two relieved themselves a short distance apart.
Chen Zijie glanced sideways, his eyes instantly widening as he couldn't help swearing. "Holy shit, did you fucking mutate and go through puberty again?"
The corner of Gu Qing's mouth lifted. "Keep it low-key. Remember to ask me along whenever you go to the restroom from now on."
The corner of Chen Zijie's mouth twitched involuntarily.
There were no classes that afternoon.
The moment Gu Qing returned to the dorm, he started wolfing down snacks with Qian Duole while gaming with Chen Zijie.
A two-pronged approach.
He farmed attributes from both their tags at the same time.
Appetite +1 +1 +1... Digestive ability +1 +1 +1... Gaming skill +1 +1 +1... Reaction speed +1 +1 +1...
By four that afternoon.
Gu Qing had planned to go play basketball with Gao Fei to farm Physical Constitution attributes.
But before he could change into his basketball shoes, the younger sports student sent him a message on WeChat.
[Xia Shuran: Senior, I'm going to the sports field to practice with the Red-Tassel Spear in a bit. Want to come?]
Upon seeing the message.
Gu Qing abandoned [Basketball player] Gao Fei without a second thought.
Instead, he threw himself into the embrace of [Martial arts grandmaster] Xia Shuran.
It couldn't be helped.
The [Martial arts grandmaster] tag simply looked more appealing than [Basketball player].
Anyone would have made the same choice.
Yes, it definitely wasn't because his junior was more appealing than his roommate.
P.S. Holding out my bowl, begging for monthly votes and recommendation votes!
Chapter 8: An outstanding senior
On the sports field.
Gu Qing practiced with the Red-Tassel Spear alongside Xia Shuran.
They practiced for over an hour.
Unfortunately.
The text he had been longing for never appeared.
Clearly, they weren't familiar enough yet to trigger the tag's mechanism.
"Senior, let's leave the Red-Tassel Spear practice here for today."
Xia Shuran wiped the fine sweat off the tip of her nose and blinked. "I need to do some basic strength training next. Want to join me?"
"What kind of basic strength training?"
"Core strength exercises. Sit-ups, push-ups, squats, pull-ups, things like that."
"Sure, let's do it together."
Gu Qing was determined to get Xia Shuran's [Martial arts grandmaster] tag. He had to keep spending time with her to the very end.
Otherwise, all the time he had invested in her would have been wasted.
Soon.
The two arrived at the horizontal and parallel bars beside the sports field.
Xia Shuran walked beneath a horizontal bar and looked at Gu Qing as she asked:
"Senior, do you know what a muscle-up is?"
"Yes."
Gu Qing nodded.
A muscle-up was a movement in which you pulled your entire upper body above the bar during a pull-up, then supported yourself on the bar with both hands.
It was a very difficult move. Generally, you needed the strength to do twenty strict pull-ups in one go before you had a chance of doing it.
Xia Shuran jumped lightly and grabbed the bar above her securely with both hands, then asked again:
"Then do you think I can do a muscle-up, Senior?"
"Since you're asking like that, a hundred percent."
"Congratulations, Senior. You got it right!"
The moment she finished speaking, Xia Shuran drew her arms inward and drove powerfully through her back, easily pulling her entire upper body above the bar and supporting herself steadily on both hands.
"Senior, am I impressive or what?"
Xia Shuran held herself high above the bar, the breeze lifting her bangs as her whole body radiated youthful, sunny energy.
Too bad she wasn't wearing a skirt. Otherwise, I could turn into Miao Renfeng...
