#Shocking! A celebrity surnamed Jian is actually a famous tycoon's secret lover#
#Flop celeb Jian Jianjian pulls another outrageous stunt, playing mystic and throwing talisman papers#
Two trending hashtags shot to the top of Weibo's rankings in the middle of the night, and the haters took their insults to new heights.
[Jian Jianjian really is shameless. Does he only get ahead by selling his body? Kept by some old man in his sixties, and he has the nerve to let it go public?]
[Jian Jianjian will do anything to trend. He actually threw talisman papers at reporters' heads. How does he even come up with this crap? Talk about bad luck!]
[All those outrageous stunts, and he's still flopping straight through the earth's core. I hear he's signing on for a new variety show. Who knows which dreamboat he'll latch onto next? Sisters, unite and keep boycotting him. Let's see which director dares hire him!]
[Exactly, sisters. Get your keyboards out. Time to take action!]
[...]
Xu Xuda tapped the picture and saw Jian Ran captured on camera, clutching yellow talisman papers, looking perfectly respectable and utterly serious.
He nearly had a heart attack from rage. Grabbing his phone, he called him straightaway. "Have you lost your mind?! We paid a fortune to get you onto that red carpet, and you threw spirit money into the crowd of reporters?! Have you given up on ever making a comeback?!"
The man who answered held the phone between his jaw and shoulder, his collarbone tracing an exquisite curve. His thick, feathery lashes trembled slightly, his luminous gaze resting naturally on the desk.
His slender fingertips held a wolf-hair brush as he drew something on yellow rice paper.
Seen from the side, his beautiful features carried a hint of aloof languor, and his tone was even more unconcerned. "Brother Xu, I was trying to save someone."
"Save someone, my ass! Save yourself first!" Xu Xuda gritted his teeth. "Don't say I didn't warn you. If you screw up this variety show too, get ready to pay the contract termination fee!"
After that harsh warning, the call was hung up.
Quiet returned to the cramped apartment. The man's expression remained unruffled as he continued his "work." Ten minutes later, the doorbell rang.
It was the courier.
The moment the door opened, the courier instinctively looked up. He was just about to speak when a flash of amazement crossed his youthful face. Nervous, he stammered, "A-are you really Jian Ran?"
The Jian Ran who got insulted onto the trending list in new and creative ways every day?!
The man nodded slowly and held out an elegant palm with long, evenly proportioned fingers. "The document envelope."
"H-here." The courier snapped out of it, his cheeks faintly red.
It was his first time seeing a celebrity.
This celebrity might have had a bad reputation, but his looks in person were no joke. He was far better-looking than those pretty boys on television with their filters.
He had no idea why the man's notoriety had spread so far beyond celebrity circles.
Was it supposedly his improper conduct?
Latching onto every big shot he met?
Had he enraged other celebrities' fans?
The entertainment industry was full of murky waters. Who knew which version was true...
As the courier was mulling this over, a clear, precise voice reached him.
"Deliver it before eleven tonight. Not a minute or a second later."
The local courier hurriedly nodded. "Don't worry. Our company has an excellent reputation!"
He wanted to say something else, but the door slammed shut.
Abruptly, without the slightest courtesy.
There had been no attempt at PR whatsoever, let alone at leaving a good impression on a member of the public.
At eleven sharp that night, a knock sounded at the President's Office.
The man sitting in the executive chair looked up. "Come in."
At his voice, the secretary pushed open the door and strode briskly over to the handsome CEO in her high heels, every step professional and efficient. She held out the document envelope. "President Yu, this is a local delivery from Jian Ran..."
Before she could finish, Yu Fengyi frowned and said impatiently, "Throw it away."
"Yes, sir." Without any questions, the secretary withdrew her outstretched hand. "I'll be going, then."
"Wait." Yu Fengyi stopped her and leaned back, a trace of complexity crossing his expression. "Tell Jian Ran for me that 'he' is back. There's no need for us to meet again, and he should stop sending strange things."
The secretary nodded with practiced efficiency. "Understood."
She then quickly left the President's Office.
About a minute later, she knocked and returned, looking odd and hesitant.
Yu Fengyi's lips curled into a mocking, contemptuous smile. "What, he won't agree? Still wants to pester me?"
"Not exactly," the secretary said hesitantly.
"What is it, then?" Yu Fengyi's voice dropped several degrees, his tone irritable. "Spit it out."
The secretary seemed to steel herself before repeating the message. "Jian Ran told you to be careful when taking the elevator, and to make sure you keep the talisman papers with you..."
Yu Fengyi scoffed. "Playing mystic and pulling tricks again?!"
"He also said..."
"What else did he say?"
The secretary let out a long breath. "He also asked you to settle the bill for the talisman papers."
Yu Fengyi: "????" What was there to pay for those few lousy scraps of paper?!
Reading notes:
An unhinged, goofy occult expert and top celebrity vs. a cold, restrained, aristocratic award-winning actor haunted by malevolent ghosts.
In a transmigration-into-a-book novel like this, of course there'll be missions.
The unhinged, badass flop celeb shows absolutely no mercy when crushing scumbags, putting people in their place, or exorcising ghosts. A proper wish-fulfillment male lead.
The other one, the award-winning actor, has a classic scheming personality. Outwardly cold, restrained, and aristocratic, he is actually meticulous and calculating, with a yandere nature.
Once he sets his heart on someone, or things slip out of his control, he deploys the "I'll give you my life" routine with a bonus chaining-up skill.
PS: Sorry, sweeties, that this new book came out rather late. I tried switching genres, but unfortunately, it ended in failure.
I might still write upbeat, goofy campus stories in the future.
I hope you sweeties will keep supporting me as always!
