Jian Ran froze at those words, instinctively raising a hand to touch his lips. "My mouth..."
Then he suddenly caught on and snapped viciously, "Don't change the subject! This hospital doesn't have a patient numbered 108. Who the hell are you?!"
"I-I really am new here!" Even finding out his parents weren't related to him by blood hadn't been this painful or upsetting. 108 looked ready to cry. "It's been over a month, and none of them remembers me!"
Jian Ran looked skeptical. "...Really?"
108 nodded furiously, like a chick pecking at grain.
Jian Ran turned to Lu Yanting. "Do you believe a lie like that?"
The latter shook his head. "No."
Jian Ran nodded to himself. "Still needs a beating."
And so he began practicing with his bare fists, and anguished wails rang through the corridor.
On a bed inside a ward, a figure trembled under the covers, muttering, "Tonight's ghost seems even more vicious than usual?"
"Should we burn some more paper offerings tomorrow?"
During a chance to catch his breath, 108 saw Jian Ran pull a sheet of Talisman Paper from inside his clothes. He immediately became even more craven. "Boss, I admit it! I'm really not a patient!"
"I'm perfectly sane!"
Jian Ran crouched down. "That's better. Tell me everything."
"I-I actually wasn't lying about most of it." 108's face was swollen and bruised, and one shoulder hung limply, seemingly dislocated. "I really was adopted."
"My parents specifically picked me out at an orphanage to treat their biological daughter's illness."
"I was too young to remember much, so I was kept in the dark the whole time."
Jian Ran raised an eyebrow. "Treat it how?"
"An organ transplant." Looking somewhat forlorn, 108 pulled his hospital gown aside to bare his chest, revealing a hideous, centipede-like scar.
