As soon as Jian Ran left, the female assistant leaned closer, her lowered voice tinged with disbelief. "Yuanming, even your mother knows him?"
After a pause, she widened her little mascara-ad eyes. "She hasn't agreed to it, has she? Does she know what his reputation is like? She mustn't be fooled by his looks!"
Ji Yuanming raised his eyelids and cast her a chilly glance.
The assistant immediately averted her gaze. "Sorry, Yuanming. I spoke out of turn."
Ji Yuanming said nothing. He silently pulled on his short-sleeved shirt and strode toward the studio exit on his long legs. Just before he disappeared through the doorway, he turned his head as though by chance, and a particularly striking figure easily caught his eye.
There was no doubt that Jian Ran was exceptionally good-looking, and his figure was good too. His muscles weren't exaggerated, but the strength contained within was visible beneath his skin. His waist, in particular, actually gave the... illusion that it would feel wonderful to squeeze.
What the hell!
I'd never thought that before!
It had to be an illusion!
Zhong Fanrui was the only one in my heart,
Jian Ran was nothing but a poor imitation!
Despite mentally bracing himself, Ji Yuanming's eyes still darkened. He asked in a low voice, "What look is he getting styled for? Why does he need to take his clothes off?"
The assistant craned her neck to peek inside, curling her fiery red lips in disdain. "I haven't heard of Jian Ran landing any work lately. Maple Blue is planning to freeze him out. Maybe he's trying to grab attention again?"
"Still, the sun really rose in the west today. He hasn't been clinging to you..."
Before she could finish, his increasingly icy gaze forced her to retreat, swallowing the rest of her words.
A moment later, Ji Yuanming left the studio with an inexplicable sense of resentment.
Once inside his van, he mulled it over and finally made a call. The person on the other end soon answered.
"Mom, has Jian Ran been harassing you lately? Have you told him where I'd be?"
Seeing Jian Ran sitting as unflappably as an old dog in the dressing room, waiting to be styled, Xu Xuda nearly shed the tears of a proud father.
He asked tentatively, "Did you see Ji Yuanming?"
"I'm not blind, am I?" Jian Ran was focused on browsing WeChat.
Still a little uneasy, Xu Xuda continued probing. "Then why didn't you throw yourself at him?"
"I'm not stupid!" Jian Ran still didn't look up.
At last, Xu Xuda felt the satisfaction of having cured a lovesick patient. He reached out and patted Jian Ran's finely sculpted shoulder. "Good. Keep it up. People who stand in the way of your progress should be ignored..."
Halfway through his impassioned speech, he suddenly heard Jian Ran muttering to himself in his seat.
"What did you say?" Xu Xuda asked, his face full of astonishment, unable to believe his ears.
Jian Ran tapped someone's WeChat profile picture, his tone slightly hesitant. "I said, why hasn't he transferred the money yet? Is he trying to stiff me?!"
Xu Xuda, whose gaze had dropped far enough to catch the name "Lu Yanting," said, "..."
I shouldn't have gotten my fucking hopes up!
"Yanting, are you really planning to sign on for Lucky Inn? It's your variety show debut! And you're handing it to this..."
Piece of crap?!
Su Yuan didn't dare say those last three words aloud.
After all, the look his boss directed at him wasn't exactly friendly.
The silence inside the Maybach stretched on, and the atmosphere grew subtly strange.
The cool, aloof, and elegant Emperor Lu suddenly spoke. "Do you know the going rates for those spirit mediums? How much does a talisman cost?"
Su Yuan shook his head honestly. "I'm not too sure. Do you need me to look into it?"
Something suddenly occurred to him, and he asked, eyes wide, "How much did that Jian Jianjian-no, Jian Ran-ask for?"
"One thousand." Lu Yanting's gaze wandered slightly, his sexy voice a little low.
"A thousand for a lousy piece of paper?! Why doesn't he just rob someone?!" Su Yuan's expression was exaggerated. After a pause, he asked with an odd look, "Yanting, you didn't really drink it, did you?"
Lu Yanting remained silent. Remembering the taste of ash he had swallowed last night, his expression darkened. His long fingers tapped a few times on WeChat before he tucked his phone back into his trouser pocket.
"Don't ask questions you shouldn't." He massaged his temples, his brow relaxing. He seemed to have slept quite well last night; even the dark circles beneath his eyes had faded considerably.
It had worked pretty well,
Maybe it was a coincidence,
How about
Buying two more?
